Okay explain to me why it is that SOME of you , NOT ALL, SOME feel the need to smoke pot & get upset because I don't. I have some friends that get upset because I don't smoke pot and they feel like they can't when they are around me. They tell me something is wrong w/ me because I don't need to smoke, when I want to have a good time. I feel they are pathetic because they need some stimulant to have a good time. I don't put my friends down for what they do but they put me down for what I do. We don't have like heated debates or anything it's just they don't like the fact that I won't smoke. I don't think either way about whether they do or don't, so those of you that do and have a prob w/ ppl like me who don't why?

klover_dso: No I am not very young, I'm over 25 and if you are so paranoid that your friends are cops then you need to find new friends!

I agree with you about how they are being pathetic for using. I think they have a guilty conscience and also you being there puts you in a position where you can hold power over them in your knowledge of their downfall. People use to escape their own reality, because they're not mature enough to handle their own issues. In their philosophy they think that you are trying to be better than them, which is beyond ignorant. Think about it this way.... suppose they ask you "Do you think you're too good to smoke?" you can reply ..... absolutely mofo! IMO, I would consider getting some new friends who will give you encouragement and have more of a positive outlook

I am 34 and quit caring what my "friends " thought a long time ago. The bottom line is, tell you friends about so many people that i know that can't even get a good job because they have to smoke weed. I have people come up to me everyday and ask if my job is hiring and the next question is always, well " do they they have a drug test". I know so many grown people that will not quit smoking weed and would rather smoke than work. Its unreal. I smoked when i was younger , but to me , its like anything you do when you are young, you do it and get over it and then grow up. So, remember all that when your friends don't understand why you dont' want to smoke.

I don't smoke - I learned at your age that I'm very allergic to a type of mold that grows on the pot plants (I'm very allergic to all molds) and it doesn't go away just because the plant dried out and is smoked. I like breathing.
But when I was younger, I also never found it interesting - and I like control - any drug that alters my mental state makes me very nervous. I had just as much fun as all of them did without ever getting stoned. In fact, I had more fun convincing them one night that there were tiny neon alien spaceships flying about their heads. (Yeah I know, a bit mean, but hilarious!)
I always took the approach that someone needed to be straight regardless of the drug of choice in case someone had a bad time of it. You need someone in their right mind to get them medical help or at least "babysit" them- and sadly, I had to "babysit" more than once.
To those who had problems with it - I told them to get over it and then presented the "sober driver"- so to speak- issue.
Even then, some people had an issue with it - one girl always threatened to beat me up until she had a problem once (personal, not drug) and I was the only one who was willing to offer sympathy and comfort. She learned the value of having someone around who could be there mentally as well as physically (cause I'll tell you, in high school some of those people were really "gone".)
College - it was no longer an issue. Most people had grown up enough to realize you didn't need to be stoned to hang out with them- plus funds get tight, so they appreciate the "more for them then" aspect, and having someone straight who can make store and beer runs.
Tell them to get over it - and if they're so self conscious about doing what they do just because you don't, then that's their issue.
FOR THE REPORT TROLLS- NOTE, I am NOT condoning drug use - I've always thought it was stupid, but outside of my family and students, I have no real influence over what others do. Their bodies and minds and time and cash. I don't think anyone should do drugs, but if they do, their choice.

I have smoked pot, and I suspect that if anyone is on you about not doing so, it's because pot induces a false euphoria and they laugh at the stupidest things. If you're not joining in their mindless laughter, then you need to get with the program, is probably how they feel.
I quit pot the night I couldn't feel my feet driving home and I was scared witless I wouldn't be able to brake properly or on time. I never lit another.
BTW, I quit smoking cigarettes earlier in the year. I haven't asked anyone not to smoke around me. It really doesn't bother me anymore to smell it. I'm no longer tempted, and what my "friend" said hurt: "Oh. You're one of THEM."

If they get upset because you don't smoke they are pathetic. I'm an every day smoker and have several friends that don't but I never get upset that they don't. It's just more for me.

I would think you are very young and you are trying to hang out with a crowd that you want to fit in with. They are young as well and most of them just try to do what they think is cool and each one tries to out-cool the other...I used to smoke and it started as that but eventually it was more of a relaxing type of thing to help me after work or to get to sleep at night. One of the biggest things about smoking pot is that it is illegal and you are constantly paranoid that your friends that don't smoke are undercover police. The coolest person is the one that is who they are and believes what they believe not to be cool but because they accept their uniqueness.
Peace
If you ever try it, do it with only 1 or 2 of your favorite people, and decide for yourself what you want to do after that but do not let their influence make you become a "pot smoker" Also do not ever smoke tobacco.

I used to smoke but quit. Even though I don't smoke friends are always boozing/smoking; They don't scold me for not doing it. They sure as hell wouldn't be in the right to say something like that to me.

You need to find new friends. These people are definitely not your friends. They want you to be as stupid as they are.
