We know that when clouds get fertilized, their negative charge is placed in the bottom of the cloud, near to the ground, so that it can be easily transfered to the earth. and we know that if we connect a charged obstacle to the earth, it will become neutral, giving electron from or sending it to the earth. So whats the explanation for this behavoiur??? I know that the earth is too big, but it doesnt satisfy me. It MUST have a known charge, + or -,how can it send or gain electron if its neutral???

The earth has zero potential *by definition*. It is only meaningful to discuss the potential difference between two objects. You're free to chose the zero potential reference anywhere you chose. Earth ground is the most convenient place to measure voltage with reference to, so when one says "potential", the default assumption is potential relative to earth ground.

Another popular place to define as zero potential is interstellar pace or, for all practical purposes, "infinity". The earth may indeed have a potential relative to that. That would mean the total number of electrons on earth does not equal the total number of protons. This would have very little impact on terrestrial affairs, though, so earth ground it is.

a million. while that's working commonly, Voltage could be recent for the period of stay and impartial twine. cutting-edge could circulate from stay to impartial twine. 2. while there's a fault, The voltage would be recent interior the stay twine and since the circuit isn't closed, No cutting-edge could be flowing. 3. No that's not superb. yet at times, the earth twine could be transmitted to the sub station the place in its joined with the impartial. 4. green 5. The Casing could be linked to earth. for this reason the impartial is shorted with earth.

technically the geo-magnetic field of the earth theoretically keeps the earth magnetically nuetral. hence the equal north-south (positive-negitive) exchange from pole to pole
