just wanted to know what stopped ther unification of germnay before bismarck arrived on the scene ie 1815-1850

Mac has it right. The question was which German principality would take the lead. Prussia was clearly the strongest militarily, but that also led to jealousy. I suspect the Germanic leaders realized that the ease with which Napoleonic France had overwhelmed them was due to their divided states. Bismarck was a smooth and shrewd politician. That's the kind of guy necessary to overcome the bickering.

Infrastructure. Each German area had its own money, banks, politics, laws, leadership, language dialect, religious traditions, philosophy and culture. This is why the German national anthem states: "Deutschland uber alles" (One Germany over little seperate entities).

Otto Von Bismarck created one single GERMANY by the military unification in 1871 over all the principalities.
