The coroner who conducted the autopsy ruled that his death was the result of a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head. A shotgun was found next to him along with what seemed to be a suicide note.
However there are conspiracy theorists out there that argue that it was a homicide, due to the level of heroin in his system, the length of the shotgun, police reports, etc..
People are going to believe what ever they want. I remember my cousin crying for days after hearing the news. My take is that he was heavily addicted to drugs and alcohol, and had attempted suicide a couple of times before. He had some problems that he couldn't cope with and killed himself. Also.....chew on this. There are tests that the police use to see if you fired a gun. They use angles and calculate distances, but specifically GSR (gun shot residue) which would probably be on his hand and arm of the one he pulled the trigger with. Now don't be stupid and say that who ever killed him sprinkled the residue on him, it doesn't work that way.
If anything indicated foul play, it would have been ruled a homicide.
