I've been working on a new lesbian website but I hate the look of it! It would be great if you could give me your opinion on colour schemes and what general look you'd prefere to see. It started of as a lavender colour but it looked boring so I changed it to what it is now but I'm still not happy. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for all your advice... it's a great help.

hc_wuk.... I thought I should include those listings while they decide what they're going to do... don't happen to know what's going on with them do you?

I'd definitely change the scheme. You use phrases such as "Soak in some rainbow rays...", so the page should reflect a rainbow atmosphere. Also, the design of it is very... mechanical. When it comes to people, I prefer to think of it as softer, more substance.

Since it's supposed to be a survival guide, why don't you go for a journal-look? You could have various entries from some made-up character who has the real life experiences that any lesbian has. It'd be creative and fun to read.

But that's just my opinion.

I think it looks alright. It will be hard pleasing everyone so try and pick something simple and maybe use purple because it's inbetween butch and femme.

I disagree with the other answerer... I love the candybar! It's one of the only places in london where you know it'll only be women in there. As for first out, I've been quite a few times and have never seen a man downstairs whatever day it is.

Yeah men are turning up everywhere... there are hardly any lesbian-only bars but I think you've given a good list. Look forward to seeing what else you add!

I like the style of the site, just becuase it's for us dykes doesn't mean it should be all pretty in pink, that would turn me right off to start with.

It would be best being neutral. But having checked out the site some of your info is very out of date, such as for The Chocolate Lounge and Glass Bar in London.

Well the chocolate longe is closed down and has been for sometime. The glass bar has reopened but I'm not sure what the membership fee is anymore or the opening times.

Also girls go down can hardly be described as a dyke bar anymore given the huge numbers of men that think they have a right to be there and the bouncers not stopping them coming in a taking over.

First out is not a lesbian bar, except on Friday nights when the downstairs is a women only night, upstairs is still mixed. Other than that the rest of the time it's a completely mixed cafe and bar.

I'd hardly describe Candy Bar London as must for a scene newbie, it's a truly vile place and would put most people of dykedom, but that's just personal taste I guess, but it's truly a very unfriendly place if your face doesn't fit or it's just a new face.

Apart from Candy bar all the rest don't bother me but some dykes would e very upset to turn up at a bar expecting only women only to find that it's mixed.

hmmmm...the website looks very stiff. i would totally use all sorts of colors. but all at once would be kind of all over the place. and you need to stay within come color limits, like don't use hot pink with pastel blue and flat orange. (get it?) it just wouldn't work. so i would use a different color for each of the different pages you have. and i would try something different than that army look you have going on cause the website is a very good idea!

Damn girl I'd have to agree. Don't like the look at all. I would suggest getting rid of that ugly table. Colors I'd definitely go with pink and gray. However, I do agree with Evan B. Focus on the content first.

Focus on content before form and let the content drive the form.

It looks okay. I'm not a girl, of course. But, that doesn't mean I don't have anything constructive to add.

the one you have got now will appeal to some not to others,it will be like that with everything you choose, try a a mix of a few colours then everyone will be happy, good luck with your site

It looks a bit techno. Which is fine, but you could soften it with color. Try bold colors like reds, greens, or purples. But it is your site, and you must be happy with it.

you have to put http:// in front of the site name like this: http://www.lesbian-survival-guide.com

I'm not a lesbian but...pink,green,yellow,purple....that would be pretty!
