Whilst there are numerous unforgettablle characters in his books, and I find it hard to choose one specific favourite, I think that Mr Micawber is probably to me the most memorable.

Who (or should that be 'which' character?) is your favourite or most memorable?, and what makes them so?

My favorite Dickens' "character" is Grip, the Raven (Grip may have been the model for "Poe's Raven). I also loved Grip's owner, Barnaby Rudge. Barnaby is the village idiot. "Barnaby Rudge" is my favorite Dickens' work - his only historical novel besides "A Tale of Two Cities". Barnaby is about the Gordon Riots of the 18th Century.

Miss Haversham from Great Expectations.

All the films have done her so well, this bitter old wreck of a woman in her wedding dress amongst the debris and ruin of the wedding feast.

ps McCawber is responsible for my motto on life "something will turn up"
And you know what? It always does!

My favourite is Pip in Great Expectations. He is such a good example of a character who undergoes change through the course of a novel.

Mrs Haversham is definitely the most memorable. I'm also very fond of Sam Weller because he makes me laugh.

Fagin. He is the least flat of Dickens's 'cardboard' characters, to use Forster's terminology. And I love Dickens, whatever Forster's unflattering description.
