it doesnt have to be, listen to your inner self, take the thoughts/principles that seem important, and incorporate that into all of your life, including work,
i know what you mean by distracting, its easy to only focus on certain things, but there is always time, even that 10 minute break, to focus in on your inner self, sometimes i go outside and stare at the sky, contemplate the universe, or read an article that is deep, sometimes i go in the bathroom and exercise, lol, even if for 5 minutes, to stay in touch with whats important to me right now, i find these things get me back in touch with "me" and also are energizing!

Yes it is. And the more debt you have the worse it is. This is what is meant by the expression of "selling your soul". That too is why so many spiritual teachers emphasize living a simple life, with few possessions. There is a balance though. We also need some security in our lives, such as food and shelter. So don't give up anything yet.

Actually Nothing (can) distract oneself. Some people enjoy their work,job,career,e.g.materialism, and others r not. so it totally depends on u. how is your attitude towards them. In fact job/work/career never distract u , you distract yourself having wrong meaning of them. So Plz, my frd!

The desire to be alone.
The desire to think.
Thinkers find life a huge distraction.
We could also phrase this that work/job/career prevent you from talking to yourself/myself.
