There are many paths towards enlightenment :P Even hate and destruction can lead to it.
Edit:
Now it's my turn to elaborate on my statements :O
I might say that hate and destruction is REQUIRED for what we think of as "enlightened." How can one not hate or destroy, if one doesn't know what it's like to do them?
Some gurus have a very interesting method of changing people. What they do is they make the person do something so much that they get tired of it and just stop. An example would be if someone was always concerned about small little chores. A guru might make them constantly do small chores all day for many days (maybe even months). Eventualy the person will just get sick of doing htem, or see that they put too much importance in small chores.

I don't think enlightenment means power or possession.
I've noticed that when people talk about enlightenment, they equate it with self-realization; in that, you realize the truth i.e. we are multidimensional spiritual beings living in an illusory world and we are capable of raising our consciousness to a spiritual state.
Lets just say that the universe IS illusive, then 'conquering all' is really 'conquering yourself'.
Hate leads to nothing but destruction. We have seen this in the past and can see this at present.
I don't think you need emotional love to conquer yourself but it does make sense to use 'love' (if you want to call it that).
p.s
i am not enlightened as you can probably tell lol

Silly question. No one is ever enlightened by hate and death, one is merely dead.
Love is the most powerful tool we have, though the word itself takes a beating, as it is equally applied to our family members as it is to a favorite flavor of ice cream.
Love can conquer many problems, but not for example drug abuse, nor alcoholism, nor obesity. No, love cannot conquer all, but it can make the path to discovery and recovery much, much smoother. Choices...it's always about choices..and those, are entirely up to us. Choices made with love and dignity may not always conquer immediately, but definately outlast the instant gratification of hate. How's that for enlightenment?

i think love can conquer all, and is a main way to enlightenment
love of self, of the opportunity you are given to live this life, leads to a being healthy individual, both mentally and physically , to the best of your ability, it also leads to acceptance of what you are capable of handling/changing, and what you are not and acceptance that you are human, sometimes soar , sometimes fall
once you are at that acceptance of yourself state, you then have love to give, and understanding to offer
so, you conquer your own self, which is all you really can do, though often you do benefit others you encounter
