You need to hire a professional to do this or else the child may get injured. Call some local theatres and see who they use. Any of them who have done shows like Peter Pan or Fiddler (for Fruma Sara) and many other shows may have used mechanisms for flying.
Do it right so no one gets hurt. good luck

Will the background be a solid color? If so you can cover some scaffolding in the same color and type material as the background. Prevent the stage lights from illuminating it and the audience should not be able to see the platform.
