Jim Tressel get no respect?

2007-09-15 05:01:18 · update #1

Jake mike hart delho...You lost cred cause you first posted Pete Caroll and Jim Tressel as the top two then completely changed putting Caroll at 5 and Tressel nowhere on your list

I don't care if someone don't put Tressel on their list I'm not going to chose best answer based off that. But there's no denying he has to be one of the top 5 seeing he got the buckeyes to two championships in a four year span.

Here's my top 5 in no particular order:

*Pete Carroll (finally gave the Trojans something to cheer about...weren't a good team prior to his arrival. Although USC has been known for it's offense, Carroll is one of the better defensive coaches out there).

*Mack Brown (consistantly fields a Top 10 team. He reloads more than he rebuilds. Gave Longhorns fans like myself something to cheer about in '05).

*Rich Rodriguez (West Virginia hasn't looked this good since the Major Harris days...when they lost to the last Notre Dame National Championship team).

*Urban Meyer (Hard to argue with the job he's done with the Gators, and before that with the Utes. First coach to beat the "big boys" in the BCS, and for a BCS bowl encore...wins the National Championship).

*Greg Schiano (The job that he's done with the Rutgers program is nothing short of spectacular. It takes a great coach to make that kind of turnaround).

Edit: My top 5 is based on a complete turnaround of the program, which would explain why Jim Tressel and Les Miles were omitted. Both are excellent coaches, but their teams were pretty solid before they came on board.

1. Steve Spurrier: He tormented the Dawgs for years, but that's exactly why I'd hire him: The Head Ball Coach has a killer instinct and desire to not just win but dominate opponents. He tends to be more successful at schools where they let him bend the admissions rules a bit. Wouldn't be a problem if I was hiring him to come to my school.

2. Rich Rodriguez: I don't know what it is exactly, but I like the way Rodriguez goes about his job. Maybe it's the sweatbands and baseball caps, but he just looks like a guy who can coach. Also, he's gone 30-7 the last three seasons, which doesn't hurt.

3. Joe Paterno: OK, so he's 80 years old and probably wouldn't want to put up with the hassle of a new gig, but I'd make it worth his while financially and throw in a case of multi-vitamins. He might be past his prime, but I love his pluck and vigor -- it would be like having Regis Philbin coach your school.

4. Urban Meyer: I don't mean to stay on the East Coast, but it's hard not to select Meyer after what he pulled off last season. There was a certain brilliant audacity to his play-calling: Whenever Tim Tebow entered games, Florida ran quarterback draws. EVERY TIME! And somehow nobody figured it out and Meyer just kept making the plays work.

5. Pete Carroll: There's something about Carroll that strikes me as odd, but it's hard to argue with his success. Or his recruiting.

Can't argue with that list, I may not like a couple- Bowden and Carrol- but I respect that they are good. I would have put JoePa a bit higher, and Bowden #2, but it's good, got teh top 5, just wrong order. The only erason that I think Bowden should be lower is the following quote from his own son: "he rides around on his golf cart, sips tea, and takes naps" -Tommy Bowden I find this hard to believe, but I'd still put him 2

I could not leave the two winningest coaches of all time off the list.Especially since they are still coaching.

No order, cannot say one is greater than another.

Carroll
Tressel
Meyer
Carr
Tedford

*Carr is obviously a joke. I would put Rodriguez in there if he knew how to do defense. Fifth wild card would be, hell i dont know... i will guess Stoops.
