This is a rhetorical question. Of course not. The big 10 always has and always will be overrated. Very popular and gets a big bias in polls but rarely performs to levels expected.

Patrick B's answer gives us the obvious answer to your question. No there never has been a conference more overrated then the big 10. He states about how many big 10 teams have been ranked. If anyone has ever watched big 10 football they know that most of these rankings are highly undeserved. THAT is what makes the big 10 overrated. Take for example the Michigan Vs Nebraska controversy for the national title a decade ago. Michigan played noone. They barely beat an average Washington State game in their bowl game. Nebraska on the other hand had a TOUGH schedule. They then trashed #3 Tennessee in their bowl game. Yet the title was split? Thats justification alone for the most overrated title. It's not just about this year. It is about the conference year in year out. The big 10 is not what its fans bill it as. Every time you see 4-5 teams of the big 10 ranked.. you know maybe 3 of them deserve to be in the top 25 and at much lesser spots then they are currently at.

I would vote for the old Big East Conference (before Miami, VT, and BC defected to the SEC). This was supposed to be a very solid conference, yet they had only 1 National Champion (Miami 2001), became the 1st victim of the mid-major upset in a BCS bowl game (Pittsburgh..and it wasn't even a close game), had 1 team so pitiful that they were kicked out of the conference (Temple), lost 3 to the ACC, and yet, there teams were ranked highly as well....but never performed. At least the current lineup is performing as expected...so far.

At least the Big 10 can boast 2 National Champions during that same pathetic run (Michigan and Ohio State), in addition to fielding some pretty competitive teams (more than the old Big East did).

I think recent events may have gotten you a little over excited.
Since 2000, the Big Ten has had 3 or more teams finish in the final Top 25, with the exception of 2001 (2). In 2003 there were 5 (1/5 of the teams in the poll). That is hardly overrated.

Just because Michigan may suck this year, does not mean they (or the whole conference) has always been overrated.....take a deep breath and calm down!!!!!!!!!!

SEC faculties will have every week out of convention agenda, however seem what our in convention agenda is like. We constantly play one of the excellent groups within the nation, each week. There are 12 SEC groups and we play eight SEC groups a season - nine If you are making it to the championship. Even so LSU performed VaTech this 12 months (recollect the moment sport of the season forty eight-7). Most faculties and meetings have now not even began to play truly soccer via the moment week of the season. The Big 10 nonetheless does now not have a championship sport - I am now not partial to that. I suppose that each convention demands a championship. Ohio State has been sitting on their a** for 2 weeks letting each person else nonetheless play and probably lose at the same time they only roll as much as the number 1 spot.

The Big Ten was highly overrated last year, when we could have had the total travesty of an Ohio State and Michigan rematch for a national title.

Hey, maybe would should have some sort of playoff or something, anybody ever think of that?

Anyway, I think that after this week you shouldn't have anymore concerns.

I don't think it is correct to say a conference always has and always will be overrated. Sometimes they are up sometimes not. There are 2 kinds of Universities. Those that are in the Big Ten and those that wish they were in the Big Ten.

The big 10 is indeed very very overrated. Anyone who pays attention knows the conference is not half of what their fans claim

No .
The big 10 is overrated. They get higher rankings then they deserve. When they play GOOD teams they lose.
