Trying to figure out this joke posted about 10 minutes ago. Want to post at work, but have to have the equations.

**So you want a day off. Let's take a look at what you are asking for. There are 365 days per year available for work. There are 52 weeks per year in which you already have 2 days off per week, leaving 261 days available for work.**

I got this far:
(52 weeks x 2 days off =104 days) (365 days – 104 days OFF = 261 available)

**Since you spend 16 hours each day away from work, you have used up 170 days, leaving only 91 days available.**

•Where did that # come from?

**You spend 30 minutes each day on coffee break which counts for 23 days each year, leaving only 68 days available**

•Can't figure that either

**With a 1 hour lunch each day, you used up another 46 days, leaving only 22 days available for work.**

•Or that

Any help would be great!

Thanks

Here's the full joke as an FYI:

So you want a day off. Let's take a look at what you are asking for. There are 365 days per year available for work. There are 52 weeks per year in which you already have 2 days off per week, leaving 261 days available for work. Since you spend 16 hours each day away from work, you have used up 170 days, leaving only 91 days available. You spend 30 minutes each day on coffee break which counts for 23 days each year, leaving only 68 days available. With a 1 hour lunch each day, you used up another 46 days, leaving only 22 days available for work. You normally spend 2 days per year on sick leave. This leaves you only 20 days per year available for work. We are off 5 holidays per year, so your available working time is down to 15 days. We generously give 14 days vacation per year which leaves only 1 day available for work and I'll be darned if you are going to take that day off!

first part is 261 days x's 16 hrs = 4,176 hrs. Then you divide that by 24 (4,176 hrs / 24 hrs = 174 days). Then subtract 174 days from the original 261 days ( 261 days - 174 days = 87 days left over) Obviously the question is written wrong here.

second part: 30 min X's 87 days = 43.5 hrs. Divide 43.5 hrs by 24 (43.5 / 24 = 1.8 days (1 day, 19 hrs). Subtract 1 day and 19 hrs from the days left over. (87days - 1 day, 19hrs = 85 days and 5 hrs left over)

third part: 1 hour X's 85 days 19 hrs = 85 hours and 48 min. Then divide that by 24 (85 hrs, 48 min / 24 hrs = 3 days, 13 hrs, and 48 min). Then subtract that from your days left over
(85 days, 5hrs - 3 days, 13 hrs, 48 min = 81 days, 18 hrs, 12 min.)

81 days, 18 hrs, and 12 minutes would be your answer from where you left off. But the problem with your problem is that the math tries to account for days that have alread been accounted for. The problem is wrong. Hope this helps, at least a little.

This joke is wrong in so many different ways it is silly.

1. There isn't exactly 52 weeks in a year. The good news is you will only be off at most one or two days.

2. As others have stated, spending 16 hours at home per day removes another 174 days not 170, leaving 87 days

3. 30 minutes each day on coffee break. I have no clue where the 23 came from. Despite 87 days left of work by just counting the hours you are still going to work on all 261 days. with a 30 minute break on each day. This will give you 261*0.5/24 = 7.6 days. Even if you calculated 30 minutes for every day of the year you would not even get half of the number that they state.

4. 1 hour lunch. The hour for lunch is already calculated in the 16 hours away from work. But here again, even if you DID remove an hour each day for lunch it would be 261/24 = 10.875 days. And again, even if you took one hour off for each day of the year it wouldn't be 22 days off.

The easy way to calculate the number of days worked.:
Around 261 weekdays in a year. Assuming paid holidays and vacations..
7.5 hours worked per day. assuming 30 minutes worth of paid coffee breaks.
261*7.5/24 = 81.5 days

16 hours on any 261 days
one day is 24 hours
16 hours means then 16/24 of one day =2/3 of one day
2/3 of 261=174
So it's a mistake it's 174, not 170
So 261-174=87

30 minutes a day is 1/48 of one day
1/48*87=1.8

2 days for coffee
It remains 87-2 = 85

1 hour is 1/24
85*1/24=3.54

about 4 days for lunch

It remains 85-4 = 81 days for work

**Since you spend 16 hours each day away from work, you have used up 170 days, leaving only 91 days available.**

8 hour working day leaves 16 hours outside
261 * 16 = 4176 hours = 174 days actually
261 - 170 = 91

but I can't follow the rest - I think they have gone wrong.

It just shows that man always knows everything but he always does opposite. It also states that human can do anything to relieve himself from things he don't likes. If you agree to this theoy, then fine, stay at home because these 22 days are the national holidays.
