Haha. True. They do that all the time.
Can I answer this in all honesty and no offense meant?
Well. a lot of hip hop/rap artists originally grew up in bad areas of town where people were on well fare or in gangs or in trouble or in poverty. I am not generalizing because you'll be surprised that some rappers/artists hold degrees and come from a well off background too. So anyway, they do this because they are showing people what they have and where they are now. Its about status and lifestyle. Its about the changes that they've gone through. In a way they are proud and happy of what they have achieved and also they are really showing off. Maybe a bit egotistic but yeah, they do that all the time.
Rockers don't really show off their guitars. They need guitars to make music right? After a while, they start acquiring different tastes and purchase different guitars to satisfy the intended sound so they end up showing off their guitar collection on Cribs or something. I mean, if you were a carpenter I'm sure you'd have plenty of tools and several different saws and hammers right? If I were a makeup artist I'd have plenty of makeup...Rockers show off the rocker stance!LOL!
Did I make sense? I hope I did. Its hard to explain without getting a reaction.

Hip-hop artists? You mean rappers on TV and the radio.
Do any of these hip-hop artists show off their jewelry, cars, girls?
Common
Talib Kweli
Atmosphere
Blue Scholars
Cyne
Beastie Boys
DJ Shadow
Immortal Technique
I think not. By the way, I like rock too. Only music I don't like is pop, pop trance, and country. But you know I never understood what is so great about jewelry. I mean it's a rock. It's not very useful. Except for drilling through stones(example: diamonds).

You Don't Understand The real concept of hip hop And You Judge IT From The Sh*t U See On TV That Fills Your Mind With Garbadge Like Nas Said " TV It's All Poison" Yea I Here That All The Time "who wants to listen to assholes talk about making millions of dollars?". Yeah, materialistic subject matter is unoriginal, arrogent, and uninspired, but this dude doesn't care about subject matter. It's just a fact that it's a rapper saying that stuff. He acts like he hates that materialism, but then he cums his pants every time he sees a rock star's mansion on MTV Cribs
Let's not forget the death metal fan that criticizes hip-hop for "being too violent"
I have a question. If you're a fan of rock music, is there some unwritten law that every rock fan is to put whatever bands they are into on a pedestal and kick dirt at everything else?? Is there some unwritten law that every rock fan is suppose to spend half of their time to ignorantly talk **** about rap music? If all of these people are right, apparently the worst rock music is still of higher quality than the best hip-hop, country, jazz, techno, soul, reggae, R&B, funk, opera, reggaeton, and classical music right? Don't you know how goddamn stupid that sounds? I've even seen shirts in the mall that say country + rap = crap. What the f*ck is that?? Is that supposed to be funny in the rock community?? Music ain't about no motherf*cking competition or supremacist power trip. Yes, I realize that everybody has their favorite genres, but that doesn't mean a fan has to conclude that whatever he/she ain't listening to is garbage. I won't generalize though. I know there are rock fans that don't disrespect (big up to all y'all). I also know that there are rock fans that grow past their misguided bias. But, there are rock fans that go out of their motherf*cking way to talk sh*t. They even stoop to major hypocrisy just to belittle the music. For example, the dude that says "all they talk about is b*tches and hoes". Ya look at the motherf*cker's homepage and he's got a goddamn picture of Tommy Lee.

Blink*blink life~ When people have money, they'll buy things to satisfy themselves. But not only the rappers like to show off the blink*blink things, even the rich men & women also like to show off these things too, right? The concept is same, only the designs of the jewellery & fashions are different only.

it's a status quo ~n~ sterotypes hip hop artist show pride in the material things they can get with their money......whereas a rocker show's pride in the thing that got them started...then alot of hip hop artist are not high on self esteem so they need something to boost their confindence.

Black people are not used to having anything. So the moment we get it (or act like we got it), we floss it.
Who doesnt want to be seen? A platinum wrist is equivalent to breast implants, everybody is going to look.
