Don't waste your your time searching for all that 'Inner Power' and 'Inner Strength' stuff. You are what you are! Just be the best kind of person you can be. Respect your fellows, and treat them as you would have them treat you. Some people will disappoint you and hurt you, and others will uplift you, respect you and help you. With the knowledge that YOU are being the best you can will come confidence, and strength.
But you will ALWAYS have weaknesses. You are human!
Buddha and others like him attained what they envisioned as having achieved an enlightened state, did nothing more than retreat, or run away from, or detach themselves from the real world. You to can do that, but that's simply turning your back on people, which is what you are. That's not strength, inner or outer. That's like saying "Life's too tough! I'll go hide away in a monastery, then I won't have to face it".

What you are asking is not a simple matter. There are componants of mentality that must form and be established beyond sway by what is seen around you, the emotions that are innate to all people as well as the fortitude to stick to your resolve no matter what.
This is not being stubborn, this is being well grounded in your own beliefs that become convictions that do not ever sway. If you will, it is faith in the faith you have to be right in your action or belief.
To do this, first you must know yourself. You have to know your own motivations your weakness and your emotional buttons. (they might have to be disconnected occasionally). Example, I love my dog. But I take him to the vet and the vet does what needs to be done and while I know that can hurt, I disconnect my emotions to allow the doc to work. Another example, man is in a burning car. You can see him burning and you restrain his brother from trying to rescue him because you are keeping the brother from dying as well. Hard things to do, but sometimes necessary.
In the same truth, you have to know what it is that is worth living for. What values do you hold that are worth protecting, worth defending, worth preserving? Are they valid? are they subject to changing as you get new information? are they immutable. example, the abortion issue, that evokes strong feelings on both sides of the issue, but can you be swayed?
as you start to explore yourself, you also have to have the spine to carry out your decision. it is easy to say I support the death penalty, but can you go up the a condemned man and kill him, looking him in the eye.....few can do that, but they say they support killing criminals who are violent offenders.
as you work your way through this, you will have mental challenges to face and physical actions to affirm the mental workings inside of you.
I adopted a philosphy some time back, that extreme disease requires exteme cure. what does that mean, it means I hold this truth to be worthy of preserving, worthy of defending, worthy of action when the demand is there.
It can cost you everything you love and have to be as you are asking to develop, by question to you is, are you willing to live with those values if it costs your family, your job, your living and your future? If not, you are not there yet.
if you have seen the move V for vendetta, the woman evenually becomes so hardened by the torture that she can endure anything including death. She remarks that she was standing beside someone she knew well and was unrecognized because her inner change was reflected in her face.
true inner strength comes at a cost, count the cost before you make the leap. Most people are fodder for the wolves. I am not. can you honestly know that your inner strength will make you wolf proof? if not, you don't yet have it.
I wish you the best

Al _Assad you are amazing. Is good to know you. Wild free I agree. But there is a price to pay for all wagers.Ie...if I lived as a monk I would close myself to the world as opposed to taking on the carnal aspects and living by trial and error. I choose the latter. That is why we all benefit one another . We learn from each one. My take is trial and error. If you can walk the walk without mistake then you are not fallible. Trial and error teaches great lessons. That is what develops the soul.

Believe in yourself ... Positive thinking. Works wonderfully !
But it takes lots of practise, a bit like dieting, you have the odd day when you fall off the waggon, but get back up there and start again, you get there in the end.
