You're on the street yet have access to a PC? I don't think so ...
If you deliberately make yourself homeless, your local authority has no obligation to rehouse you. What did you do? Not pay the rent or something?

I'm sorry that you have found yourself in this situation. My sister recently went through the same thing when her boyfriend cheated on her and left her alone with her two year old daughter. She was days from being homeless. Nowhere would accept DSS. But she got in touch with all the local letting agents as well as the housing association and then eventually found a flat in the newspaper. The landlord said that he would not accept DSS, but once my sister (and my mom!) explained her situation and got to know the man a little, he accepted her.

My advice is to try EVERYWHERE. Even if they say they do not accept DSS, they may change their mind when they hear your situation - especially if these circumstances were beyond your control. You can gently point out that DSS is actually beneficial to a landlord, seeing as they know they will get paid directly by the government rather than having to rely on a tenant that they really do not have a clue about paying up every month.

Try websites such as:

http://www.findaproperty.com
http://www.rightmove.com
http://www.fish4.com
http://www.nestoria.co.uk
http://www.rentright.co.uk/lancashire/wigan/letting-agents.aspx

if you haven't already. A lot of the flats don't state whether they do or don't accept DSS. Speak to agents and you might get a lead on someone who understands your situation.

Good luck; don't give up - be persistent and keep trying - you don't know if you don't ask.

xx Emmie

Also, have you tried the Lancashire gumtree forum? I was just reading the London one from a woman who desperately needed a landlord who accepted DSS and they managed to help her out on there. So try posting a question, you may very well get a response:

Kenny- I feel for you. It is scary to be in those circumstances. I myself lost a home in a divorce and had 2 kids. We were days from being homeless. Everything worked out and we are fine now.
Your wording makes me believe that you are not in the states. Since I am unfamiliar with the options that you have available to you, use the computer to research. You will find something and remember that the sun always rises and sets no matter what is going on in your life. There is a solution and you just need to find it.
Now - why are you asking other people for help. I don't mean to be rude here but the best place to look for a helping hand is at the end of your own arm. Only you can do something about this. I know it is scary like i said, but it sounds like you are the "leader" in your family and they are counting on you. So buck up. Nobody ever got far unless they walked themselves.
Good Luck and I know it will work out for you. Try harder, I know you can! God Bless

Doesn't DSS keep a list of landlords friendly to their system ?

And are you sure those are really "unforeseen" circumstances ?
You may want to avoid that term and be more specific because to landlords that means . . .

The neighbors were complaining about our druggie friends and / or psycho dogs , and we " didn't seen why 'dey be complaining " .

this person can be homeless and use a public computer from the library or the net cafe in his country.
try to seek out help via the authority they will help you, or go to a shelter, its better then the street.

Go to the local authority and tell them you are homeless and see what they can do for you.

do you have craigslist.org in that area? here in the states that website has listings of that sort of stuff, including rental property.
