I live in Kansas, and I'm 16 years old. My parents are threatening to have me kicked out because I'm not respectful at home.

I have the ability to get to practices and shows whether or not they support me, but I need to know if they can legally have me removed.

Thanks... this is pretty important to me.

If you are under 18, then they can have you removed from any voluntary activity at the school. You're a minor, and basically until you turn 18, you have very few rights.

I'd suggest that if you want to be in that musical, you grow up, be respectful to your parents (which they deserve, as does ANYONE, until you give me a DAMN good reason why you shouldn't), and quit causing trouble. You live in THEIR home, not the other way around, and if for no other reason, you are obligated to obey their rules and restrictions.

Sorry if you don't like it, but that's the way it works. I'd do the same thing in their shoes if my child were disrepectful to ME.

They can, at 16 you have very few legal right, unless they are abusive somehow, and pulling you from the school play does not count as abuse. That said, they should find another punishment. Pulling out out of the play will be a punishment for the who team. It also sends a bad message about following through on commitments.

Parents shouldn't use that as punishment. Explain to them that you have made a commitment to be in the play. If they take you out, it doesn't just punish you, it punishes your classmates that are in the play with you! It's the same for sports. Parents shouldn't take away sports as punishment. That says to you that keeping commitments is not important - wrong message to be sending to your kid! They should take away your TV and your PS3...and your computer. But not extracurricular activities.

Oh...and maybe you should try being more respectful at home!

Life is a series of compromises. If there are things you wish to do, then you have to do some things to make it allowable. Yes, your parents can deny you being able to participate in extra curricular activities at school.

Yes they can and I'd like to be there to watch and help. Get yourself an attitude adjustment.

Yes. Since you are still a minor, then they are still in charge of your comings and goings.

Straighten up and fly right.

You should have a talk with him and tell him what you have to say, but say it nicely....maybe he will understand.
