No...Notre Dame football isn't a spectator's sport, it's a religion...ND fans watch for love, everybody else to see ND writhe in agony under Charlie Weis...it's a great deal for ABC.

Hardly. If you watched ESPN at all this past week then you know that even though Notre Dame has gotten walloped in its past four games, the game that has been getting the most airtime after Nebraska-USC has been...you guessed it!, Notre Dame-Michigan. On a weekend when Florida and Tennessee are showing down in the swamp, where you've got Alabama-Arkansas and Georgia Tech-Boston College, the second most talked about game on ESPN by a long-shot has been ND-Michigan. You can say that an 0-2 Notre Dame team is irrelevant all you want but ESPN doesn't seem to think so because the ratings make it abundantly clear that a ton of people around the country are still going to watch the Irish even when they are racking up -8 yards of total offense (or in Beldin's case, because).

Actually, it is NBC that has a contract to televise Notre Dame's home games. The game against Michigan is on ABC because it is being played in Ann Arbor, and ABC has a contract with the Big 10.
However, I doubt that any of the networks would ever regret having a Notre Dame game on. Even though they are terrible this year, their fan support is strong enough to still draw the audience. And, because Notre Dame is one of those teams that most people either really love or really hate, people will either blindly support them win or lose, or will tune in just to see them get beat. I always take a peek at their games, and if they are losing, I continue to watch. It's always nice to see them get beat.

Not today, they don't.

Today will be the battle of who truly sucks this year, vs. who just tripped out of the gates. It's going to be a pretty interesting game, even ignoring the attention a Michigan-Notre Dame matchup would normally receive.

Plus, like others have noted, the football loyalty of Notre Dame, and Michigan to a similar degree, is pretty unparalleled, even during the worst of times.

Those Notre Dame fans will still watch.

It's NBC, not ABC. They probably do, but it'll make it easier for me to find the game next week when MSU goes to South Bend and kicks the crap out of the Irish for the sixth straight time in front of Touchdown Jesus.

Their contract is with NBC. People are still going to tune in and watch them play. I would say some are enjoying the fact that they're 0-2.

I would think so ... as Steve Zukiel points out ...

It's the first time in history these two teams have gone into a game without a win between them, which makes the game meaningless
