Is internet a threat to morality?
As u address that it is for debate, I like to mention both - advantages and disadvantages of internet. Hope it helps u...
Advantages:
1. Anyone can see any news from anywhere if connected to internet..
2. All possible education material is available on the internet..
3. Not only texts are available there are countably infinite sites where we can get a feeling of real education(Virtual Reality). Also video tutorials are available..
4. We can have up to date information about book releases that may help a lot in increasing our knowledge..
5. There are online bookstores that help in finding out and buying the best suited books that we need...
6. Not only educational sites are available but also we also get a lot of moral sites. e.g. some websites and blogs are maintained on "Great Quotes" exclusively...
7. There are sites that help us to prepare for quiz contests and any other exams..
8. The websites like this i.e. Yahoo answers, google answers etc help us to collect information from all over the world from real people..
9. There are official websites of institutions which we can go through and decide our careers..
10.There are also innumerable websites that help us in Personality Development(Much of importance now a days..)
and many help us to improve in Management skills(Of great demand currently)...
11. The information available on the Internet really helps a lot in solving our problems(Software related or real life...)
12. Best means to market our products..
Disadvantages:
1.We cannot trust ALL the information that we get from the internet as it may be posted by a specialist or expert or a person who just knows to write into the webpages…
2.If we look at any pages on the net, we are sure to find advertisements…Now a days these advertisements not only contain marketing or other useful ads but also dozens of ads that promote pornography. This may have a bad impact on traditions of many countries and the youth and the kids using the internet..
3.Sometimes due to lack of security we may be made to lose secret information which may lead to great loss(economic or personal)…
4.Today activities such as hacking, phishing etc have spread widely to which we may become victims.
5.Some agencies are making use of our mail IDs for spamming exclusively.
* Many answers to ur question address only porongraphy topic. That may not be the only reason for treating internet as a threat....

No, lol, Interner is a good thing, its depends how one makes use of it, Internet is good for knowledge, communication, if some people are weak minded/hearted to abuse the system then its their fault, if there wasnt Internet then these ppl will be abusing something esle so the Net is not at fault, remember this that life is how you make it, so Internet is how you use it, simple, some people use it to their advantage for the better & the weak ppl use it for their advantage for the worse.

Yes it is... but it also an extra very heavy burden on the parents having to keep an eye on what their kids access on the net.
The danger of the internet is that anyone can upload anything, truth or a lie, fact or rumour.

The earlier answer from mohitsharmagzb is much more appropriate to your question, even in the face of heavy onslaught from the towering statistics from James H.
What James H says is true, but only partially true. Internet does provide open and unrestricted access to pornography of every imaginable type. People who have interest in pornography will no doubt access the sites which cater to their interest. And there is no inbuilt mechanism within the internet to deny access to such sites to people who are not supposed to view pornography. Pornography debases morality. Moral corruption can lead to crimes in real life e.g. rape, child molestation etc. It can create children who grow up to be morally abnormal. These are doubtlessly the dark sides of internet.
Yet, the first benefit everyone gets from having an internet connection is a free email account. Emails have revolutionised communications with their speed, simplicity of heavy attachments and accessibility.
Internet generates commerce in many different ways (including peddling of pornography).
Many unemployed people can find self employment with the help of a computer and an internet connection. Internet provides easy access to job vacancies to potential job seekers.
Applying for a job, paying bills, booking a flight or reserving a room in a hotel online is far easier and faster than other methods of doing the same.
Internet is a vast store house of information, just a click away. Countless people have accessed important information, statistics etc. on the internet through sites like Wikipedia. You have posted a question on Yahoo! Answers because you are confident of getting good answers in a short time. You don't have to go out and purchase an expensive book on the same topic. Accessing internet is far cheaper than buying books. As such, the internet has tremendous educative value. Since information is available on every conceivable topic here, anyone can find pornography on the net too, if they so desire.
Thus there are two sides to every coin. Petroleum runs cars and also pollutes the atmosphere through emmissions. Nuclear energy can be used to produce power as well as to produce bombs for mass destruction. We have to find ways to check emmissions and not ban the use of petroleum. We must use nuclear power for our benefits and progress and not for destruction. Similarly, we must use the internet responsibly and extract the maximum benefits from its vast potential.
It is not only internet that has lead to a certain amount of debasement in human character. A face to face chat between two persons can lead to conversations of physical intimacy. It is not restricted to internet chat rooms only. You must have heard about date rapes, which originated far earlier than the internet. So, internet alone is not responsible for depravity or debasement of morality. Its users are responsible for sordid outcomes arising out of incorrect or immoral internet usage.
Two people, unknown to each other, have made friends and even fallen in love with one another in an internet chat room. There are instances of people who have ended up marrying, after they got introduced and came to know each other well at a chat site.
Finally, for every net user who accesses pornography, there must be at least double that number if not more, who use it responsibly for useful purposes. Hence, the internet can not be considered a threat to morality.
