its really hard to pick a favourite because it changes. sometimes eastenders is the best when it has gripping storylines, but then corrie has great northern humour that i love. this question is giving me brain strain. ok i pick eastenders, no corrie, no eastenders... oh i don't know its a tie. x

When it first started out, The Young & The Restless was. I watched the first several years of it then wandered away.
My sister and I used to watch A World Apart. Among the actors was newcomer Susan Sarandon, which is when we became fans of her.

It's likely we watched the whole series.
Back in the Sixties, the ultimate soap opera was Dark Shadows! It seemed as if all of the girls had a crush on Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid), which was surprising when you consider the very handsome men in the cast, including but not limited to David Selby.
OMG! When I checked my spelling of Barnabas (I was correct), I came across an astonishing bit of news: Johnny Depp plans to bring Dark Shadows to the silver screen, portraying Barnabas Collins! Several sites are stating that this will be DS's debut in films, but that isn't true! There was a DS film in the Seventies, so this is its return to the theaters. Now that's synchronicity: selecting this question, deciding to mention Barnabas, checking on the spelling and discovering this news! WOW!
By the way: Dark Shadows likely was the best back then, but it doesn't play all that well today, at least the seasons the Sci Fi Channel aired. *SIGH* Not all that glitters in our youth remains gold.

I have seen a lot of good soap opera's but I would say, General Hospital
Guiding Light
Young and the Restless would be my picks.

Eastenders is by far the best soap!! Followed by Corrie and Emmerdale! Brookside was good but now thats gone!

I used to love Home and Away until it moved to channel 5 (which I can't get) so haven't seen it since then. Love Emmerdale and Corrie but I have gone off Eastenders as it is always so miserable - still watch it though! Love Neighbours too. Difficult to pick a best one really.
