Yup, my ex-husbands mother is a singer in church and she is quite a big woman. But she has a very powerful voice.
Also, if you have ever heard Rita MacNeil from Canada, she has a marvelous voice. She is such a large woman that she sings while not wearing shoes. Here is a link to her video. She is from Cape Breton Island.

The phrase is a joking reference to Opera, where a bored audience member once noted that the "opera isn't over until the Fat Lady sings"--referring to the usually heavy-set women usually cast in such works. The idea is that if the big girl hasn't sung her part yet, you know the show isn't over.

Yes I have ! Where I used to work, our QC lady, about 4 feet tall and 3 feet wide, used to sing (mostly to herself) all day long. She was my best friend in the place.

Yes, and she sang "Barcelona", with the late great Freddie Mercury. I can't spell her name, and I'm too lazy to look it up. I looked it up, and her name is "Montserrat Caballe" Yes my darling, she can sing! As a matter of fact she gave me goose bumps.

But she is a little low on self esteem cuz everybody calls her fat
