It was my birthday the other day. No one of my friends said "Happy birthday" To me. They knew it was my birthday because we have a news letter in the Senior apt. building where we live and it lists the tenants birthdays. I may have once or twice mentioned that my birthday comming up only because there is something I am looking forward to for next year, if I live that long a person not guaranteed tomorrow because next year is a milestone. It is no big deal............a simple "Happy Birthday." Would have made my day. I never forget their Birthdays. My feelings are really hurt but I'd never say a word to them.

I really don't know why I have let my feelings become so hurt. I guess when you get older like I am, every year is special. Never even know if you will wake up tomorrow. Thank you everyone for the Birthday Wishes!

I would be a little hurt to. But try not to let it get to you. If it helps, I've attached a little something for you.

And HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!

I wish you a very happy birthday and many more of them. But yes, I know it hurts.
I have adopted what I believe is the Chinese custom of "doing it the opposite way around" on your birthday. On my day, I bake and decorate a cake, and take it to wherever I'm going, whether its work or a group or whatever. I say, hey everyone , its my birthday so I'd like to share some cake with you. People find this very disarming....its not like I'm asking them to remember me, it takes any guilt away from them, and we all have a nice piece of cake.
It works for me - a few years ago, I had a miserable day because no-one remembered.....but since adopting this idea, I've never had a bad one yet.

Well Mary Lou, Happy belated Birthday to you. Yes I would have my feelings hurt too. I mean that is what it is posted for, so friends and neighbors will know when others birthdays are. I get my feelings hurt when mine is forgotten as well.

I noticed that some one here still blew it off for you, saying it is no big deal. Well it is a big deal to me. I happen to like having birthdays and to have people remember mine. Just hearing some one say happy birthday to me means a lot to me. I always tell folks happy birthday when I know it is their birthday.

My mom TRIES to blow hers off every year, but I won't let her. I still make a cake and get a card for her. I also try to get her a gift as well. Hers is just 2 days before mine at that. Ours are coming up very soon as a matter of fact, next week.

And again HAPPY belated BIRTHDAY MARY LOU and many more!!!!!! ((((HUG))))

Yeah, I think my feelings would be hurt too. Just a little acknowledgment from someone special to you on your day is all you need. I get that too, even with my hubby and kids. Although, my kids are starting to remember. Or at least get close to the day. LOL! One year, it was about 6 p.m. before anyone in my house remembered and then they wanted ME to go to the store and buy myself a birthday cake! Heck no! But, life goes on. But it does kinda hurt your feelings. Cheer up. And Happy Belated Birthday!

Your feeling got hurt because you allow them to be. You need to say Hey guys it's my birthday today! Did you forget! A lot of people just read the newsletter and then forget. You have to be the one to make them aware. Hey I am the one who doesn't forget birthdays where I work too (not a senior yet) but last year I even arranged for my own birthday dinner as people tend to forget as I have a Christmas birthday. It was a lot of fun!

If you're a senior, you've seen plenty of birthdays, why worry about missing one? Perhaps you need more hobbies to occupy your time and thinking processes, especially if this birthday thing made you hurt.
There are so many OTHER better things to do than worry about rather foolish 'occasions' and 'celebrations' that come every year, like it or not. Enjoy the life you HAVE.
By the way, there's a 50:50 chance they'll get an opportunity to wish you Happy Birthday next year. Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday.

Now, pick yourself up and go get something you'd like even if it's just something small. A favorite desert or a scarf you think is lovely.

Make a presentation of it to yourself...no I'm not kidding. Even w/a card if you like them. Think of it as being from you to you for all you've done.

This isn't conventional but I do it every year. Buck-up. The more at peace you are with yourself the more people will want your company...unless you're like me. The hermit on the Mt.

Well, I wouldn't let it ruin your day. I won't be surprised if they wish you a happy birthday in two weeks thinking they're right on time. In the meantime, happy birthday and have a little birthday chuckle:
