The difference between a moon roof and a sun roof is the moon roof is made out of glass and a sunroof is made out of metal or even cloth on some older cars like a '62 beetle.

I don't think any new cars come with sunroofs anymore because it is less desirable.

I think they named it a moon roof because you can let the sunlight in during the day and moonlight at night. If a sunroof is closed your not letting anything in.

When these things were first developed in the late 60's, a moonroof didn't open. It was somewhat transparent, a sunroof was generally metel and had to be opened to let in light.

if someone (or some corporation) has a copyright on a word or phrase ("moon roof" or "sunroof"), anyone else who wants to use it must obtain their permission and possibly pay a fee.

alternatively, a manufacturer may want their product to seem unique or different. they may use a different term to try and distinguish their product.

from a practical point of view, the only difference between a moon roof and a sun roof is the name.
