hi,

i live in china and i just recently bought two very tiny turtles from a shop here. the problem is they don't seem to be doing very well (i've only had them for a day). they're just sleeping and they hardly move. i've placed them in a little tank with water and dry areas, and fed them turtle food, but they seem sluggish or sickly. is this because they're still babies or do i have dying turtles in my care?

Ok, please go to this website and read everything. Make sure your set up is correct as far as water depth, size of tank, temperature of water, water filter, basking spot, heat lamp and UVB. You need to vary the diet quite a bit also.

It's hard to tell if we don't know what kind they are, but my guess is that since they're babies they don't move around much, if they are RES turtles don't just feed them pellets that can't be their main diet, try feeding them crickets or mealworms or something else that contains meat.

You need to check the PH of the water, have you dechlorinated the water? That kind of filter do you have running? What type of turtles are they and what diet have they provided for you to give them? Need more info to give you a more accurate answer.

no. your doing fine. i had a turtle once(i was babysitting the class pet) and also, feed them worms,(like nightcrawler) to make them grow bigger, plus, it is fun to watch them eat the worms. and if you could, go out to a grassy area, and let them roam around there.(but be carful, they can be fast little buggers!!!) and it couldn't hurt to check the ph in the water. oh, and put some grass in the tank in a corner(plant it), and maby some fake rocks, because they like to hide under stuff.
