He had many visions of supernatural creatures throughout his life. His creativity and intellect set him apart as one of the greatest writers of his age. He wrote because that's how he expressed himself best.

I think Wm. Blake wrote poetry for the same reason that many of us do, to release something that is inside, regardless of whether anyone else reads it or appreciates it. It has to do with "I think this, I feel this, and there is a need to have a venue for it.

Latinate poetry is one that is learned, erudite, it creates a language divorced from the common speaker and, so, creates the first necessary ingredient of poetry, obscurity, ambiguity, paradox. Yet, this is false obscurity, false ambiguity, false paradox, it seeks to create those effects not by use of language, but type of language- it depends wholly on the unlearnedness of the reader, and fails when readers are as well read in Latin as the author.

He had messages that he wanted to communicate and he could best express them in poetic form! Remember the novel form as we know the genre today was non-existent then. The epic and drama could not capture convey hismessage adequately. Poetic verse won his heart as the best expressive form!!

I doubt it's that complex. He wrote poetry because he wanted to, and he happened to be good at it.

I just found this quote from him:
"I must create a system or be enslaved by another mans;
I will not reason and compare: my business is to create."
Good, eh? Well, I think it is, anyway.
