Hi, I don't want to make this shirt, but I love the lace with the black. I want to make a bag like that. How would I saw on white crochet patterns onto my bag (if you can do this w/ fabric please tell me how to, cause I'm sure it doesnt matter if its fabric on a shirt or a purse) (because the white part is so thin...I'm not sure how they do it perfectly.

A lot of it would just be hand sewing to secure it.

Because of the delicate nature of the lace, you could put a clear organza or fine netting over the top to protect it better. Bags get a lot of heavy use and that might make it last longer.

This would make a striking pattern that would really stand out!

You can take any bag pattern and cut the pieces from dark fabric. Before you sew the pieces together, hand-sew the lace onto your fabric pieces, then finish making the purse. Your local fabric store will have bag patterns for all skill levels. I think it will be very pretty.

I suggest you use Steam-a-seam to adhere your lace to the fabric. Steam-a-Seam is a permanent bond and is clear. http://www.warmcompany.com/sasuses.html

I highly recommend using a Teflon pressing sheet to protect your iron from the adhesive while working with lace. Here are a couple websites to show examples of a Teflon press sheet. They are great for a lot of crafts not just for sewing. (They have been known to be used as cookie sheets as well.) http://softexpressions.com/software/notions/jtTeflon.php

If you use Steam-a-Seam 2 (or Steam-a-Seam 2 Lite for lighter weight fabrics) it has a tacky backing so you can place the lace exactly where you want it -- moving it around until it is just right. The tacky backing will hold it in place until you bond it permanently with your iron.

This is a link to locate stores close to your home where you can purchase this product. http://www.warmcompany.com/buy.html

The teflon pressing cloth can be found over the internet. You can check your local craft stores to find out if they sell them.
