This seems harsh but it's an observation I've made on here.
FIRSTLY, I'M NOT SHOUTING JUST TRYING TO BE CLEAR: THERE ARE MANY OPINIONS BASED ON HOW PEOPLE FEEL ABOUT THE ACTUAL CASE - I DON'T MEAN THOSE. OK???
I mean the comments based on comments like (not direct quotes): 'They should pay for their own defense - have you seen the size of their house'
'If they were working class we'd all be down on them more for leaving their kids'
'they think they're beyond the law because they're middle class'
I don't understand why their jobs and lifestyle has anything to do with it.
Also, do you think that the way their personalities are coming accross in the press is going against them with some people? They don't come accross as the most likeable, loveable people. I can see that too. But, it doesn't make them murderers does it?
It's almost as if their wealth and personalities have turned them into pantomime villains for some people.

Unfortunately we have a reputation in this country - that is to say, the media has given us a reputation through their own actions, of wanting to create heroes and finding ways to villify them. that is exactly what the press have done to the McCanns. It is not their fault that they have worked hard to become qualified in their professions or that they are paid well for their expertise. that is a product of the society that we live in. It is a shame though that it seems to be getting held against them.

The fact that they are proffessional people has worked in their favour not against it. If they were unemployed they would have had the book thrown at them and no rich benefactors would have bankrolled them. As it is, Social Services have just given them the obligatory visit and no action will be taken. They have access to a Ltd Co worth over a million pounds, they have had months to get rid of evidence and prepare their stories (if it turns out that they are guilty) and have had trips abroad, an audience with the pope and photoshoots too numerous to mention. Do you think "poor" people would have had this treatment. Most people don't like them because they neglected their 3 babies and so were responsible for Madeleines disappearance. Even now they refuse to admit doing anything wrong.

No way, have some faith in people . I just think they are a pair of smugs, who left their children alone in a foreign country and the total lack of authentic regret over this annoys me enough. Also the fact they have courted the world’s media their own self-aggrandisement , never making a plea about leaving kids alone.
Gerry´s blog is a subject in its own . Just read it and you will hate the man.
Also they come across as the most arrogant cold hearted and shallow people one ever meet.
There are hundreds of reasons why these two are not liked , but never ever thinks it is because they are doctors . Who can really care about what they do for living.

I resent that everything nowdays seems to come back to 'class' issues.
Wealth should have nothing to do with it - the fact is that a young child has disappeared.
What does surprise me is how two obviously intelligent people could be so outrageously stupid as to leave a little child at night in a strange place on her own. How could this ever make sense!?
They have got a lot of support and awareness raised world wide which is fantastic, but as a friend pointed out I do wonder if that means her captor would be more likely to kill her (harder to keep her hidden).

Unfortunately as they did not have a babysitter they are at fault. Just think what would have happened if the same thing had happened here and they had gone out to a restaurant in the village and left the front door open. The social services would have had the twins away before now and they would be under investigation for child neglect if nothing else.

I have nothing against the McCanns because they are doctors. I dislike them because they chose to neglect their 3 children that night, they went out to a tapas bar instead of bringing their children with them or staying in with their children.
I have everything against child abuse and neglect is child abuse.
They are very arrogant and think they are above the law but this is nothing to do with their background and more to with their personalities.
I wouldnt care if they were rocket scientests or bin men - I would still slate them for not being good parents.
The only thing I have to say though, the media would not have been so quick to back them if they had been a couple of lager louts that didn't work

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me the fact that they are drs and middle class means they have got more publicity and more help about their missing child than someone with less status in life. There are thousands of missing children and what bugs me is that there has been so much made of this one which I think is because of who Maddy's parents are - total injustice. But I don't believe they are murderers.

No, it has more to do with their irresponsible actions on the night in question and also their actions after the event. A lot of people fear that they (if guilty by direct action or complicity) may avoid prosecution because of their links with high ranking officials within the government etc., just like the Adams case in Florida a couple of years ago. (The grandfather was a high ranking police official in the UK)

I do not care if they where millionaires or poor soles (abroad holiday do not think so anyway) NO ONE should leave three innocent children no matter of age on their own whilst out for a jolly end of!
As for their detatchment emotions grief does do strange things to people however writing on a blog every day and one such blog a few days later "Nice weather today went for a jog" is not normal behaviour in my book a blog would be last thing on my mind.

i think that leaving children on their own is totally inexcusable. i also think that if they had been a teenage couple somewhere like ibiza who had left their kids to go out clubbing and to take ecstasy and cocaine instead of drinking with friends the initial media coverage would have been a lot different. i think people have taken against them because what they did is appalling even if they are innocent of murder and the fact that they are respectable people in a respectable profession makes it more difficult to comprehend. i'm a mum of 3 and my eldest is 13. i wouldn't leave her alone in a strange hotel room in a strange country. never mind being abducted, what if there was a fire or something? i couldn't imagine those poor children waking up to find they were alone.

Very good points- I think most people probably are jealous of them - not sure what it is - almost like there's a new form of racism called "Mccann racism" -
It absolutely does not make them murderers. The same people on here saying that it does would be saying the same damn thing if it was a woman in a trailer park - there would be comments like " The woman lives in a trailer park for God sakes - she did it!!!"
