Everybody knows a mother would most likely die for her child, or that a family member might sacrifice himself or herself for another family member. But, what about a stranger?

If a situation arrived and you had to make a choice to either save that person and take your life in his or her place, or do nothing and let that person die – which would you do?
Be honest here… it is actually a difficult thing to decide, and usually the spur of the moment would decide. However, if you are not sure, tell me what you THINK you would probably do then. Why? There is no right or wrong answer here, just getting you to think.

P.S. ~ Feel free to answer this question also if the curiosity should strike you! Cheers! ^_^

Everyone can easily say that they would give themselves for their strangers, but you never really know until you're in the situation. I had a chance to save someone else and put my life in danger in the process and I did...and I ended up in the ER, the person I saved didn't even show gratitude...that was a hard thing to deal with because you figure if you give yourself up for someone that don't know, they'd at least thank you for it.

No, I wouldn't die for a stranger. I feel bad for saying so, but I value my life more than I value the life of somebody I don't know. Call me selfish, but I have a wife and son who depend on me, and that's just how I roll. Good question though.

Then again, put me in the situation and I respond or act differently, based on reflex.

I am sorry but no. I have 2 kids and a wife who depend on me and that I love. Well I wouldn't die on purpose, I would like to think I would help a person in need. It would most likely have to be a woman, or a woman with small children.

short answer is to let the stranger die, i've got children and a husband that need me. the question is situational though, depending on the circumstances, i'd work to find a way to save both of us, but when it comes down to it, i'm gonna do everything i can to make it home to my family.

I'm not sure, I'd like to say I would, but I don't think l'm so altruistic. As you said, it's probably something you have to decide in the moment. Anyway, I'm sure that if I decided not to save him, I'd have the guilt mortifying me every day for the rest of my life.

That's a dicey question. I don' think most people would know that until the moment comes. Be nice to be made of stout heroic stuff, but when the moment is there, I can only imagine how it would go.

That's a tough one! I like to think I'd sacricifice myself for the life of any child. Perhaps if the choice came down to me or a 90 year old, I'd think differently. Wow, that's really a tough one!

well, I would probably try to save a stranger- it wouldn't be my intent to die for them, but you never know going in what may happen, do you? If there was a very high liklihood of dying, I wouldn't intervene because I'm raising grandchildren and I really think that my dying would devastate them.

Of course I'd be willing to die for any loved one, but as for a total stranger... to be honest, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to do it.
