The main reason for its failure is that you cannot remake legends. The originals are always the best. There was too much hype about the film but it turned out to be a horrible movie. It was really bad. The movie also failed because of miscasting and poor imagination.
It was definitely a poor remake and the most stupid movie I have ever seen. Overall the movie disappointed in every department.
I am sure Ramu is regretting his decision to remake Sholay.

The answer is easy. Ramu tried to remake a classic, an cult film that even today is enjoyed by everyone, including youngsters. Everyone knows Sholay and who can forget the infamous phrases from the movie, i.e, tera kya hoga kaalia?
You can't just make another version even if you are Ram Gopal Verma.

1. The script failed miserably. Couldn't created and maintain the interest of the viewer unlike the original.
2. Ajay Devgan - Doesn't go well with any audience as he is not suited to showing his teeth under the genre 'comedy' , but the serious and slap stick role of his in Golmaal was better anyday.
3. Amitabh Bachchan has not been utilized fully. He didn't have to be shown all the time in dingy places with that dirty dress. Could have potrayed better for sure!

first of all the stupid star casting! Why the hell Ramu
put Nisha Kothari in the role of Hema?!I think Nisha
Kothari is the worst actress ever happened to Indian
screen! She has nothing,a total 'zero'!Your blood pressure
will shoot up with anger when you see her in Aag!
Ramu,if you like her marry her,not again on the screen,
Please!

Ramu picked up the wrong movie to re-make.....Sholay is an all-time classic.....and unless you come up with something really good(which Ramu...could'nt)u r gonna end up with egg on your face......and lets face it....some movies are better left untouched....the likes of Sholay,Titanic,LOTR's.....these movies can never be re-made with much success......

because it has been copeid so many times in differant formats like in Karma and Army and many many others that i cant remember, that it has lost it's charm.
plus what worked in the 1970s can not work now! thank god the dosti part wasn't copied exactly otherwise it would have looked so gay in todays time!
plus the annoying songs, useless love scenes and tragedy that made u laugh instead of crying!

Easy Ans - "Becoz it was badly made"
But we cannot say casually this 4 a director who has given wonderful films like Rangeela, Bhooth, Satya, Shiva, Company, Sarkar- who had dared to be different with experimental films which may or maynot click but atleast made cinegoers to think differently - Raat, Kaun, Jungle, Darna mana hai, D, Mast. Road, Darling, Naach, Nishabd, etc. etc.
Sholey is a mile stone - one should have handled it with care
But here Ramu became over confident & with the revolt among the industry people more arrogant & adament.
First he said it was his tribute to has childhood fav. film- but to prove it he kept some unending mindless actions which were quite kiddish.
Dialogues were jaan of the older movie but here Ramu failed miserably. None of the dialogues were remarkable (actually mostly were mono syllable )
The common scenes were worse- Ajay teaching Nisha how to shoot, Mohanlal's fingers bieng cut, when Virendra Saxena comes to know Ahmed's death, Ajay's Mausi act with Rasika joshi & the worst of the lot Prashant's death scene- which looked like some extra has been killed.
The problem was every where the casting misfired miserably:
Nisha Kothari must sharpen her skills or will go Antara mali's way. She had most scope but kept on shoutng throughout in short pants. Even she faltered badly in the emotional scene she had with virendra saxena making audience laugh at cinema. Her spark from Sarkar is missing totally. Like her mentor she should also keep shut & concentate on work.
Ajay was a disaster -it was shocking to see him act like this & he's a national award winner. To whims & fancy of Ramu he even comes shirtless exposing more than Nisha- Hey man hv u gone mad which film of yours needed u to be shirtless to become superhits- stop such cheap gimmicks.
Sushmita -this time being silent did not paid. With gravity she played her role but she was misused. Funnily when Amitabh died Jaya cried on Sanjeev kr's shoulder & here she was standing like extra while Ajay hugs her clumsily & goes back to Nisha - simply becoz prashant died so that ghungroo can live - how stupid.
Prashant acted well but with poor script could not make an impact. It was shameful that Ramu could not utilise gr8 actors like Rajpal Yadav (irritating even in 1 scene) Sanjay Narvekar, Sushant Singh, Rasika Joshi, Virendra Saxena & Chakravarthy. Worst maligned was Mohan lal being an icon in south (Sajza-e-Kalapani) it was sad to see him talking half dialogues & blowing winds in lack of words.
Then Boomerang Amitabh Bachchan as Babban- Ramu 1st said he'll not copy but what he made was worse. For him even AB started poking nose in public to show he's greater than Gabbar. After Black, Sarkar, even Nishabd this performance really made us all SHUT UP-literally (thank god King Lear of Rituparno is coming)
Camera was ametuerish, Songs should be cut especially Ajay Nisha's all wet song was unnecessary as public also refused to see sexy acts when their God AB fails to deliver.
But if Ramu kept his words & made a different film it might have been worked -
Holi song was more enjoyable with Suchitra & Chkraborty Their track could have been more fleshed. It was interesting to know why Babban took revenge - Sachin & Mrinalini were good too. Even when Gaowalo wanted to handover Jai & Veeru, Virendra Saxena was brilliant
Bas these were the only 3 scenes of Ramu otherwise all were bogus.
The only saving grace was Urmila's song - Mehbooba. Though miles back 4rm the original, Urmila does make her mark unlike the major stars of the story. She was Wonderful & Attractive & Seductive & Glamourous & Confident & Excellent in her ONLY 2 scenes with AB in her Whole Filmy career. She was much better than Nisha who immitates her badly for 3 hrs & still cannot make her mark in audience's mind.
Verdict - Ramu should come down 2 earth after being pompous 2 name a film on his own name. Be confident but not over confident.
