If the military is made up of mostly Conservatives who don't feel supported by the Democrats or anyone who opposes the Iraq War (aka Occupation), then why are they giving more money to the campaigns of Barack Obama and Ron Paul than they are anyone else?

Intelligent, analytical responses from Bush Supporters are welcome and appreciated.

44 and 23 do seem like small numbers. Maybe they're hoping for a 'miracle' candidate to show up by November. More than likely more support will be seen in November and if the troops are really concerned, the numbers will be larger for whatever candidate they throw their support to.

They are talking about 44 contributions for obama and 23 for paul.

Those were the ones the contributors said they were military.

I wonder how many contribute, that don't list their employer when they contribute.

Even adding McCains 32 contributors.

That adds up to 0.003% of the US Military.

I don't really think you can draw any conclusions from so few donations that list the employer as the Military.

But it will be good to see what the donation totals come out to be, after the Parties nominate their candiate.

My impression:

We all know Obama and Paul supporters are more outgoing politically than the other candiates supporters are.

IE: more strident or vacal in their views and support.

Since most in the military are apolitical, while they might vote in the national election, they aren't involved in the primary process.

Just like most americans aren't involved in the primary process. Which explains the average 20% turnout in the primaries.

So it makes sense, that the candiates that are different, which obama and paul are.

Would have supporters who are more involved during the primary process.

Im not gonna read to much into 44 service members out of 2.6 million donating to Obama.

Or 23 out of 2.6 million donating to Paul.

As meaning anything right now.

What is a military worker?
Obama got 44 contributions worth about $27,000 and Paul 23 for about $19,300. Republican John McCain, an Iraq war supporter and Vietnam prisoner of war, was third with about $18,500 from 32 donors.

In 2004, military personnel contributed $1.2 million to presidential and congressional candidates, the center said. This year, those donations are about $200,000.

The analysis also found that military personnel have shifted their donations. In 2002, the center said Democrats received 23% of contributions from military workers; Republicans got 77%. This year, 40% of their donations have gone to Democrats running for Congress and president. The GOP got 59%.

44 contributions! Oh my!

67 donations isn't exactly a ringing endorsement of what the military wants and it they are civilian contractors to boot. Even better the so called "news" article even contains misspellings!

"The center tallied money from donors who list the Air Force, Army, Marines, Navy and National Guard as an employer. Overall, these donations are miniscule: Obama got 44 contributions worth about $27,000 and Paul 23 for about $19,300. Republican John McCain, an Iraq war supporter and Vietnam prisoner of war, was third with about $18,500 from 32 donors."

Because they have allot of support that comes from the middle class.

It is a myth that most of the military supports republicans, most of the officers maybe but not low rank troops. It has been reported that troops deployed to places like Iraq and Afghanistan often do not get to make out their absentee ballots. Their commanding officer brings it to them and tells them to sign it without selecting who they want to vote for.

the concepts in that article is fairly exciting -- who would have thought that the actively deployed troops in war zones would be donating SIX circumstances as plenty money to Obama as to McCain? i think of the reason being in all threat because of the fact they understand that: one million. even however McCain says he "knows a thank you to win wars," he hasn't given any data of it. 2. They comprehend that Obama desires to pay interest our militia efforts on combating the real enemies of united states of america, no longer purely proceed to waste American and Iraqi lives in a war that advance into in keeping with lies. So he desires to go troops from Iraq to Afghanistan, that's the place the terrorists have been hiding out for the previous 5 years. 3. They love their u . s ., and that they comprehend that decrease than Bush, international appreciate for American has sunk fairly low. lots of our long-time allies have been so became off by Bush's "cowboy international family members" "Lone Ranger" mentality that they do no longer prefer to have something to do with us any further. Western Europe is much extra excited with reference to the opportunity of Obama getting elected than the Democrats listed right here are. i think of the troops comprehend that electing Obama will immediately fix our point of appreciate interior the worldwide. 4. Obama has continuously presented and voted for law to help our troops, at the same time as McCain has oftn detrimental such measures. McCain detrimental Webb's new GI bill because of the fact it advance into too beneficiant interior the advantages it would grant to troops.

Your link doesn't work. So I can't assume to answer what ABC put out. But the jest of your question is military workers, which are predominately democrats and belong to the AFGE Union. Military personnel are predominately conservative republicans, a vast difference in opinion from the government employees that they work along side of at military bases.

the real poll is the one taken in nov 08 you can twist the numbers on contributions any way you want. lets see who they vote for!! I am a member (not by choice)
of a labor union and every year they take my money and give it to liberal causes and candidates. they count me in their liberal support numbers even though I donot support 90% of the issues and agendas they do. so keep on miss counting and generalizing and come up short at the voting booth. neither ron paul , obama or any other cut and run politician will win !

Because the military isn't dumb and they know they have been used and abused. Their job is to protect US, not oil, or not to go on revenge campaigns for Bush's daddy.
