It isn't only in fairy tales. My grandparents have been together for decades, and now they're in their 80's. My parents have been together for around 26 years, and are staying together. Don't worry: you'll find the one that is meant for you, and you'll live your own fairy tale.

Because they left out the part in which the couple made sure they had common values and were compatible, and then spend their 'ever after' learning to compromise and make each other happy! LOL....it's only HAPPILY ever after if both people want it and work at it. Now how romantic does all that sound at the end of a fairy tale?

Some people just expect too much - they expect it all to be roses when the truth is it is not. It comes from silly little fairy tales when we are kids and carries on with medial images of perfection when we get older. The problem is with the fairy tale is that life get's in the way. We are all individuals and have stresses, strains and worries outside of the relationpship that will affect how we feel as individuals. I don;t buy into this "as one" approach. My advice is keep your friends, keep your interests, keep your independence - enjoy and respect your partner and accept that no-one is perfect. A good relationship (especially long term one) needs work but not too much - if you are having to try too hard - something is not right.

I agree with Robert C.....fairy tales/stories are MAKE BELIEVE!!!! They are not real!
LIFE is reality!!! Every relationship has a beginning and an end!!! ONE~ someone either gets their heart stomped on or TWO~ someone dies.
So either way just enjoy your relationships for the time being and keep in the back of your heart and head that it won't last forever!!! Just enjoy the time you do have and the person you have been blessed with.

Because fairy stories like to create a euphoric type of relationship. It all goes along with fitting into the perfect Utopian society.

I personally know a few couples that have lived happily ever after and some that are still living that way. Not all marriages are terrible. I would venture to say though that there are more bad marriages than there are good. But there are some marriages that are fantastic.

Because fairytales are not reality, their stories. Some people do actually marry and live happily ever after together. Theirs is a relationship of giving and communication, and forgiving as well as love and understanding. Marriage takes alot of work to keep together, and most people still believe in fairytales.

Not true. I met my wife when we were both 14 and we went "out" with each other. After 6 months she dumped me for one of my friends. 6 Years later we met again and were engaged after 1 year and married after another year. Fast approaching 50 years married and I can say that apart from the usual ups and downs of life we have lived happily ever after and neither of us would change our lives even if we had the chance to do so.

Because in fairy tales life and relationships are easy when in REAL life there not. That's one main reason there are so many divorces people marry thinking marriage will be perfect and they get a rude awaking when there not.....
