Washington's reaction to the Newburgh Address made it clear that He as the acknowledged Military Leader would not Challenge the authority of Congress and therefore made it clear that America would not be a Military State. No matter how Styupid Congress might be Congress is still the Will of the People. (Scary thought, if out elected leaders are idiots does that make us idiots?)... Washinton set the tone on this issue as he did for several other issues. Washington was the One Man who do so without stirring up (much) argument..

The answer is totally accurate. You seem to have missed the other factor with regards to WWII, that being the ultra liberals. If you remember those characters, they supported Neville Chamberlain when he stepped off the plane with a piece of paper and declared he secured peace in our time. So when he and his liberal ideology were removed from office, a conservative took the office. Granted he was not an ultra conservative, but conservative nonetheless. So when you look at the entire picture, you can clearly see that the answer was very accurate. Had the ultra conservative not been around to push conservative values, the ultra liberals and liberals would indeed have surrendered and we would be speaking a different language, maybe not German or Japanese, but certainly not English.
