As for bands. There are songwriters that write lyrics and they are submitted and accepted or denied. I write. Always did. I kept pen and paper around for every moment of the day. When I have a moment that reflects a profound feeling I write it at the time. With something that affects you so you have a natural tendency to hold on to it and elaborate as to complete the feeling. Is almost always good and or something that you feel should not be left behind. You write and sing what is in your soul. That is the the way it should be. No worries about how something rhymes etc. Just what is true. That is what makes it.

A true musician sings with his heart, not with his mouth. Express your thought with whatever lyrics you wrote the song with. If you wrote a love song, sing it romantically. If you wrote a song full of anger, then express your true feelings. If you know what you want to write, sit down and write it. It may take a while, but all good things come with time.

Just write down what you want to say and then go over each sentence and find a more colorful way of presenting it. Choose more expressive and meaningful words to replace the mundane words. It takes time, but no one comes up with something great on the first draft. You have to keep going over it until you are completely satisfied with it.

i have been a musician for a lot of years and I will tell you that you expression should be the way you feel. Don't let your yourself be critical of your work because you will then become your own worst enemy and your efforts will fail. If you are driven by the need to say it, it will come out and it will be acceptable. I express myself with my guitar playing all the time and people love it. Your feelings are your biggest asset.

Dude, you have to love the music. Not just the sounds but the soul of it. You have to know what notes express what feelings. Majors and sharps for love, joy, and positive energy. Minors and flats for blues, sadness and downtrodden!
Music is a gift that was given to us. Don't you ever cry at a song? Just a song, may not mean anything to you but just the beauty of it? I play in a string band here in Philly and play banjo, guitar, piano and drums. Love music!!!

its about expressing what you feel. great lyrics are something where you get your message across but you leave it open to interpretation. so that other people can relate to your message. just take your time writing until you are happy with the result.

I was wondering the same thing. I think you should just write anything that popped in your head.
