Hi I'm Jonty(Jonathan) Rhodes(not the cricket player). My wife and I are expecting our first this week. I'm South African and my wife is Australian so we decided not to have an Afrikaans name for the baby. We are christians. We live in South Africa. It’s a baby boy and we have decided to name him

Abraham Benjamin Rhodes (Rhodes is the last name)

We will call him AB at home by his intials, but in school he will be called Abraham.

What do you think of it? If you want to be rude then please don't answer.
Thanks in advance.

Congrats Jonty! How exciting...

I think you have chosen very well.. It'l' be nice to have a little personal nick name for him at home like AB, and Abraham will suit him well as a grown man.

And well, You like the cricket, and your wife IS Aussie, so maybe he'll be the next big AB in cricket!

Abraham is a very old name, so chances are your child will either like their name for being different or hate it because of the very same reason.

Thankfully, I don't hate my name, and I don't know anyone with the same name as me that is my age. Plus, I don't think you can stop other children from calling your child AB at school. To be honest, I find it hard to believe that someone can name a baby without even looking at his/her features and seeing his/her reactions.

Yet, it happens all the time. Anyway, It's a very noble name. Congratulations.

umm well abraham no offence but makes me think of president lincoln, which there is nothing wrong with that cuz he was a good president, but im just sayin. well AB its cute cuz there is kid in my school named Alex P, (cant put his last name but it does start with a P) and every one calls him A.P. i personally tho like benjamin is a better first name, then he could have the nick name ben. but the choice is up 2 u. ur the parent.

Hope this helps, CONGRATS 2 by the way

This name, i think, contain too much names from famous people: Abraham Lincoln, Benjamin Franklin. I dont think it's a good idea for the child's character. How about Alan Benjamin Rhodes (if you wanna call AB)

Sorry but I really don't like Abraham. If that was my name I'd change it when I got old enough to.

Benjamin on the other hand is a lovely name.
Benjamin Rhodes sounds so nice.

I like it. His name sounds very strong and rolls of the tongue very well. When he gets into high school his friends might call him Abe.

Congrats and good luck with your son.

I absolutely love both Abraham and Benjamin. Please don't listen to the opinions on here which will inevitably say Abraham is "too old sounding." I don't, however, care for the nickname "A.B." I love the nickname Abe. I think it's cute, hip, and I love the simplicity.
