He is not the first captain to face unjust criticisms. That is the whole thing about being a captain. You have to take responsibilities. You cannot put your hands up and shrug off the resposibility. As far as mental strenghth is concerned Ganguly was better.Take the case of Ponting who also have to face harsh criticisms when his team lost the ashes.Did he just resign?Even being a captain you can concentrate on your batting.Again take the example of Ponting and Jayawardene.

His resignation could also be a form of protest for choosing Dhoni as captain in the twenty20.

Well my guesses are:-

Dravid with his lack of form and lacklustre unimaginative style of captaincy no longer enjoys the respect of his players . Somethn that happened to ganguly during his later years as captain.

Dhoni being named captain, surely rang alarm bell and better to leave than to be chucked off.

Now, if this really serves the proclaimed purpose i.e. getting form back, then so be it. India needs 'The Wall' much more than she might need a 'play it safe captain'.

Not at all. He has been a target of wanted and unwanted criticism all these times. Hence he may have thought that enough is enough.
