I keep getting thrush like every two months. If I am on any anti biotics even for a few days the day after i start taking them i get thrush!! Its really getting me down. i have been to the docs loads of times and they have done internal and external exams. They give me antibiotics of some kind and it goes then comes back again. The canesten stuff doesnt seem to work. The itchiness goes but it is still red raw and sore! What should i do? I hate keep bothering the doc. Would i need to give a urine sample? I dont understand it. I cant have sex even with condoms as it hurts too much. Its affecting my sex life, because its either too sore to do it, or its affecting my pill from working from all the stuff they keep giving me! help!

Hi
If i was to treat my bf too, would it have to be that fluconazole tablet too or can he just use the canesten cream, as its normally up inside women whereas men its just on the penis isnt it? If he has no signs should we still treat it anyway?

Try Live Natural Yoghurt.. And wear cotton underwear for a while. No g-strings.. See whats triggering 'every 2 months'.. And try to work out why the flare ups die down..

You need to take a single dose of fluconazole which should deal with it once and for all. You can buy it over the counter - costs about £15. You also need to restore the normal levels of friendly bacteria in your gut - destroyed by the antibiotics. Eat live natural yoghurt daily and get some acidophilus capsules from the health shop.
Forget the antibiotics unless you really really need them. Wash all towels on the hottest wash possible. Do not share them. Get your boyfriend checked out too. You could be passing the thrush infection between you constantly.
**--edit--**
Yes your bf should be treated even if no symptoms. Start him off with Canesten cream. Be aware that creams can degrade the rubber of condoms.

ask your doctor for a prescription for Diflucan first off, then buy an anti itch cream designed specifically for thrush/yeast infections.
Dont have sex until the infection is gone, and you may also have to have your husband/boyfriend be treated as well, since he may be reinfecting you....aside from that, you may not be getting the infection cleared completely up to begin with. Sometimes these infections are stubborn, so you need to keep on it until you figure out the source.
When you go on antibiotics, make sure that you tell your doctor that you get these infections every time. He will prescribe something to help or change medications to help you from getting these infections.
You will not need to give a urine sample, but you may have to have a pelvic exam to determine if you have any other kind of infection going on.
Don't worry about bothering the doctor..this is why he gets paid. He will help you find the source of the infections. Also have him check your blood sugar levels, as people with certain diseases like diabetes are more prone to thrush/yeast infections.

Cut back on your yeast intake, which means no bread or any doughy foods like pizza etc. Also, up your gut flora with probiotics. This is helpful because a) you've been on antibiotics and b) the thrush indicates there's a bacterial imbalance. Also, test yourself for diabetes. Thrush and fungal infections flare up when you have high blood sugar. Go for a proper venal blood test when you go for a diabetes check, not the urine sample one. They tend to be far more accurate than the urine strips. Meanwhile, for temporary relief, you can try the yoghurt on tampon trick. Oh, and wear cotton undies, not any synthetic ones.

i know how you feel because ive had thrush lots of times, but i was too young to understand what it was (about 11, im almost 19 now) and didnt do anything about it. because of that it turned into bacterial viganosis and then pelvic inflammatory disease which is now chronic, so you need to speak to your doctor again and get it sorted before you are at risk of getting the same disease. dont worry about bothering them, its their job they have to do something, your health comes first. they can give you stronger antibiotics, or you can go to your local hospital and get checked by a gyn to make sure you dont have anything serious which could be causing it. they can get a swab to be sent off and find out the real reason and deal with it head on. do this asap because if you leave it and it gets worse it can have terrible consequences. also maybe your boyfriend has picked up the infection and when you have sex he passes it back to you, so he should be treated too just incase. and remember not to douche because that upsets the ph balance and will make you prone to infections, something i wasnt told about until it was too late! good luck, let me know how you get on.

They may need to change the kind of medication used to try and kill the yeast infection to something like Diflucan to see if that helps. Also, ask them about a condition called vulvodynia (painful external genital area). The symptoms with this can be redness and rawness and when this occurs it can act like a yeast infection in some cases. Some cases are even caused by frequent yeast infections especially if it's a kind that is not that is the usual strain: the candida albicans.

When you wash do you douche? Sorry bit personal question there, but I have heard this is a cause of reoccurring thrush because you are killing your body's natural bacterial, I had this in pregnancy and they told me to stop 'over cleaning' and it stopped. Hope this helps and sorry to those who I have just grossed out :) lol
