Sadly, it's not only your disk that is damaged. The most likely cause of this is a hardware failure which has allowed the disk to spin at high speed with no control. If the CD Player is under warranty, return it and request a replacement. If not, you have no choice but to bin the player and replace it with a new one. I am assuming that it is an internal PC CD / DVD player that you are enquiring about, if that is the case, it can be replaced for as little as around £30 ($60). Check at www.amazon.com or www.dabs.com for the latest and cheapest prices. Also check Amazon's "Bargain Basement" as there are usually some excellent savings there. As a word of warning, do not purchase Sony. Sony have DRM built in and if you have a problem with Sony devices they are unwilling to help. You can spend tens of pounds calling Sony and constantly listening to "I do apologise" but get nothing constructive out of them. I would recommend an LG as they are extremely reliable and usually come with some good software, at less than half the price of a Sony player.

I have seen it happen in the past, but extremely rarely, and generally only if the disc was already structurally unsound or discs not meant for the player (like I had a very old PlayStation disc shatter in my 52x CD-RW drive, but I don't know if I can put that down to the age of the disc, the condition of the disc, or the fact that it's a PlayStation disc not meant to go at 52x. As for removing the disc, my recommendation is to pull the power and try to find a manual eject button for the drive, then fish the pieces out with some pliers. Also, while the power's off, many times the drive can be forced to open by pulling while the power's off, especially if you pulled the plug while the device was ejecting. You just have to be careful and then you can probably rescue the player....just hope the laser/lens was not damaged by the pop or your subsequent recovery. Good luck.

Reminds me of the MythBusters episode where they tested if it could happen. You will have to take the drive out and pull the cover to get all the pieces out. It is actually better to throw it away and install a new drive. Probably got the head assembly when it fragmented. ( Yes they proved it can happen in the right circumstances, especially if the disk is damaged when installed)

Very unusual incident. Sounds like you have a destroyed CD player. If you are talking about the CD player in your computer, then it will be much cheaper to replace it than pay someone to fix it!
Typically you replace, not repair, any defective CD/DVD recorder/player.
Good luck.

This happened to my computer. It really sucked. Did you move the player while it was on and playing? You are gonna have to take off the cover and remove the pieces. They are blocking the tray. Jsut remember that A. if under warranty, you will void it, and B. unplug it before taking it apart.
