Certainly "Catchy" often works. I had a partner in Washington and our painting company was named "Faux Real."

Another consideration you might want to investigate is whether or not the company will be licensed and have to submit a name for registration.

Another thought is advertising. If you ever get to the Yellow Pages you'll notice the names are in alphabetical order. Certainly that helps the phone company; but the thought by the advertisers; is often to be FIRST in the book: IE: Acme painting company might seem like a good name to be on the first page at least; but then someone will come along with ABLE; or AA; or AAA painting company.

There is a theory in that... A usual perspective rarely goes to the W's/ X's/Y's/ or Z's looking for places to shop for a service. Easier to "Catch" a customer with simple.

It also seems in our modern day world that a NAME need not have much at all to do with the business; though that doesn't promise income. Simple is as good as "catchy" especially on a magnetic sign on the vehicle trying to catch the attention of someone driving; already focused on the driving.

I personally think that the use of ones last name helps often. In my case for example; especially hoping for referrals; I want the customer to not only recall the quality of my work; but my last name; which might aid in the entire process.

In this line of work, I think a more serious name or phrase is better. People looking through the yellow pages to hire a handyman aren't going to call someone with a stupid name. They will place greater trust in a name that exudes experience, skill and know-how. Try something that incorporates what he does like Triangle Painting or Citywide Carpentry or All Services Maintanence...etc.

"AT YOUR SERVICE"
-name of contractor-
-?? years of service-

The use of a color which will be associated with the company as the background on the cards. You want to be consistent but stand out to catch their eye. Using "at" for the first word will put you closer to the top of the list in a phone book or online listing; which is where most consumers start to look.
