Im eighteen and have to visit the gyno for the first time on the third next month, and I am still a virgin, so I was wondering if it will hurt more than normal. Also, I have used tampons for about four years now, and have had no problems with them, will that make any difference in the pain factor?

Don't worry. It may feel a little wierd but not be painful. Being a virgin doesn't really matter but having experience using tampons is helpful because you know how to relax your vaginal and tummy muscles. Believe me it will be ok :)

When you go in, just tell the Dr that this is your first pelvic exam and she will understand. If your Dr is male there will be a female nurse there too. If there is a female physician's assistant at your Dr's practice, you may want to ask if she can give the exam or they may offer.

It's done and over with very quickly like just a few min. For what it's worth, the first is the scariest and most awkward. After that than they are just a pain.

You can take your mom or a close friend with you too if you want. She won't have to see anything but she can be with you and talk to you and even hold your hand. Believe me it is ok and not at all unusual and you will not be the first to to this if you want!

Best wishes and I hope this helps. Please feel free to email me if you like :)

I felt like that after my first trip to the gyno. I sometimes feel that way even know that I a m older after the doctor has checked me out. I wouldn't worry about it. My Mom would bleed a little after every gyno visit that she was checked at. Keep in mind that each woman is different. I am sure you are fine. Don't even worry if you start spotting. But if you are really that concerned then it would be best if you called the doctor and ask them. But sweetie I am sure it is nothing. Hope you feel better soon =)

It can hurt the first time if one is nervous which is understandable but please try to relax. If the doctor gets too rough you can ask them to stop. As for the use of tampons that shouldn't be a problem.

I would recommend letting the office know that you would like to talk to the doctor first before any exams are done because you are nervous about this. If the doctor is really good they will try to help you feel more relaxed. When it comes time for the exam a good doctor will also explain to you what they are doing as they do it so that there are no surprises.

If you have other questions for me please feel free to e-mail or IM me off site any time.

Know matter if you are a virgin or not, it is still uncomfortable. I am 35 years old and still don't like those appointments. I think since you have been using tampons it will help a small amount. Please let your gynocologyst know that you are a virgin prior to the exam. They will use a smaller speculum for you. Just breath and try not to hold your breath through the entire exam. It will be easier after you get to a relaxed position. Good luck, and congrats on still being a virgin. After you have sex for the first time you can't take it back.

No my doctor knows each year what magazine I want to see and places it there for me. I look at a magazine and then they are done. We exchange pleasantries ... oh aren't you wonderful , I pay and we are done.

Read a magazine or think of the flag. Ask for the remote control or determine what color the ceiling should really be and suggest swatches to the doctor. What shade of beige should it really be.
