hey steven I -your response of how many attacks since 9/11 I find ridiculous -how many attacks on american soil before 9/11 -one which should have opened our eyes and prevented 9/11- to suggest that this war is what is preventing attacks from occuring makes no sense -what makes sense is this -we went into afghanistan broke up al quaeda -had them on the run -stopped chasing them and turned our attention on Iraq -we missed a great opportunity to irradicate them from this earth-they are now regrouping and doubling their efforts to make an attack on american soil -while we use all of our resources on Iraq leaving our borders open to catastrophe -and causing greater and greater numbers to join a group who had relatively low support in the arab world

She is NOT right. Being at war does not make our country safer, by any means, and being at war does not prevent terrorist attacks, it is only coincidence. If she doesn't believe this, then ask how many terrorist attacks were there before the war, or before 9/11 when we were not at war with anyone? She should probably read up on her war facts, as the terrorist attacks are not even why we went to war with Iraq.

It's very difficult to imagine that America is in a safer position today, than if the Iraq war had never taken place. For one thing, think of all the Islamic extremists and insurgents who started out in 2003, 2004, 2005, and so on knowing NOTHING about explosives, ambushes, insurgent tactics, etc.
Well, the US military gave them a very thorough education in how all that works. Some of them have even been embraced by the military because they now pledge to also fight 'al-Qaeda in Iraq.'
Hmm, that sounds a little bit like the 1980's, when the CIA armed a group known as "the Muhajadeen" in Afghanistan to fight the Soviets.
15 years later, we got the blowback from that in the form of Osama bin Laden. I suspect the eventual blowback from Iraq will be worse.
Also, some will ignorantly trot out the "flypaper" theory and claim that we are "fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them over here." Ha! They were never OVER here, and in fact, before the US invasion, many of them were just bored kids in Saudi Arabia. The invasion CREATED "them." And while many of the dumb ones get killed off, the bad thing is, the smart ones survive.
They survive, and slowly, over the years, they spread out, beyond Iraq. And that is why we are NOT safer as a result of the Iraq war. Hate Saddam all you want, but he was a SECULARIST. His own Prime Minister, Tariq Aziz, was a CHRISTIAN.

I think, we will be lot safer if we stop F#$%G with the rest of the world, live and let live kind of stuff! Acting like a big bully will eventually turn others against us. Don't be so certain of the mass killing machines we have launched against the rest of the world, will power could easily demolish them all.
Any crazy dummy can start a war!
The smart ones however never get into one!
Best Regards.

Oh absolutely, just as:
Completely open US borders 6 years after the attacks on Spet 11 is making us safer;
Paper slippers at the airport is making us safer;
Duct tape and plastic sheeting over the windows is making us safer;
Bush not implementing even ONE of the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission is making us safer;
NOT capturing Osama bin Laden, the confessed murderer of almost 3,000 US citizens, is making us safer;
Bush's Republican Congress vetoing a $650 million appropriation to increase cargo inspections at our nation's busiest seaports is making us safer;
Killing and maiming thousands of US servicemembers, while the Iraqi government takes a month-long vacation, is making us safer;
Hunt Oil signing a deal with te Kurds in northern Iraq is making us safer;
Encouraging thousands of young Middle Eastern men to become al Qaeda, by invading a sovereign nation, is making us safer;
Taking away hard fought for and won rights and civil liberties and privacy of American citizens is making us safer;
Of course, had Bush been doing his JOB in the months leading up to Sept 11, 2001, maybe we would all be safer too.

No. Bush is the poster boy for terrorists, and thanks to him attacking Iraq, a country that had nothing to do with terrorist or 9/11, they have had plenty of time to regroup and they are stronger than they were when Bush went into Iraq! And we are weaker! We are burning our troops out and cannot sustain the troops in Iraq forever! Maybe it is time for a draft! The rich go first!
And rooster, I guess our troops deaths don't count? Nor do all the Iraqi's we have killed.
You think this is over? It has yet to begin!

The war in Iraq helps Al Qaeda's recruiting base by recruting people that lose friends and family in Iraq, which is pretty much every iraqi person.
So no, it does not make us safer.
