Sometime it's just not that easy. I know I am having a similar problem right now in my life, this is my last year and pretty much everything I have studied in the past years has n o interest to me now. But if your like most of us the bumming around stage will end and you will be forced into a job even if it's something you hate doing just so you can pay the bill until something sparks your interest for more than a few weeks. I know you said not to say it but there is something to be said about doing what you love, even if it doesn't pay the best. What that something is is hard to say but when it hits you you will know, it just takes time and getting out there and trying diffrent things. Good luck finding it.

Two suggestions. 1) Take the Strong Interest Inventory (it's a standardized test). I had been struggling with how to change my career for years and it was a big help for me. If you go in depressed, however, the results might be skewed, so try to take it when you're relatively calm.

2) Read books about career choices by Barbara Sher. My favorite is Wischcraft, but it's out of print so might be hard to find. I Could Do Anything If Only I Knew What it Was! is good, except that I expect it will diagnose you as being depressed and I thought the section on dealing with depression was weak.

If you live in Albuquerque, NM, I can rrecommend a counselor.

Good luck,

Welcome to the world of "lost" !!! Hahahah. See, it's much easier in school -- you know exactly what to do day in and day out -- wake up, get your text and to to school - hang out, and do whatever. But in real life -- gosh, it takes a lot of figuring out.

Step 1

1. Don't take advice (hahahaha -- so stop reading thins)
- Seriously, you'd have to figure out for yourself what you want to do. Take for example -- you're studying accounting but you don't even like it. So why do it? You gotta ask yourself what you really want to do and do it.

2. If you just can't help it -- and still reading this post then fine -- let's try to make the best out of it.

- Think forward, 10 years from now, what the heck do you want to be? If you say you want to be this and that -- then ok, think of planning backwards -- how do you get there to your goal. By the ninth year, you should have accomplished this, by the 7th year, I should have done this, by the 3rd year, I should have done this... Some thing like that -- planning backwards.

3. If still that doesn't work -- go to a park, a quiet park, sit down, don't be noisy, and just let all the bloody questions in your mind roll...When you're tired from all the noisy screamings of your head, sleep, when you wake up, and still feel bothered, do that quiet exercise -- go to a quiet place, and let your mind wander and sift through it's questions. After doing this a couple of times you're bound to get your answer.

4. Who said being lost is bad -- great people became great because they were lost and explored their life -- Look at Steve Jobs and Bill Gates.

So there -- fear not. When lost, try these -- and if lost, and still getting further lost -- well, keep moving, you'll soon find your way.

Cheers

(when you're a bloody millionaire then, don't forget me hahaha)

I can relate. The best thing I did was to take a cashier position at a local restaurant. I just needed something to do!! (I have two BBA degrees.)

In a few weeks I caught the respect of the managers and owners. I now have an awesome position in the company.

I guess I'm living proof that it's easier to get an awesome job when you have a job. Sometimes we just have to pay our dues it seems.

Also, look into www.indeed.com. It's a website that has all the job openings from the major career hubs and corporate sites as well.

Good luck!

To help you focus on your future life, there are some important questions to ask yourself ...

What type of lifestyle do you desire?
Is a high paying job a necessity?
Do you prefer a 9-5 job or being self-employed?
What fields do you definitely not like?
Are you competitive or laid back?
Of all the courses you have taken in school, which did you like the best?

When you answer these questions, you will be delving into your true wants and requirements for a career.

If you still are unsure, then go to the counsellor of the school you graduated, and talk to him/her. That is their job - to counsel. They'll help by giving you a list of professions and careers that are best suited for you - now aware of your requirements.

Ah, welcome to my life. Just know you're not alone and there's others out there like myself who are in the same boat with you. I dropped out of my program last year, and went into this one that I'm currently in now. About to drop out on Monday, again. Unfortunately, I'm more or less being forced to because of money issues (gotta love the government, eh?), but I don't like the program. So that's 2 programs down, and 2 jobs that I thought I wanted since I was 3 years of age, down the drain.

Anyhow, my advice to you is take each day as it comes. You WILL find what you're meant to do in life, sounds cheesy but it's true. May take a year, may take 5. Start by writing down just hobbies. You have to enjoy something that you like doing. You said teaching. I'm also very shy in public and I don't like speaking in public, but if you honestly do enjoy teaching, it will come naturally to you. Get a job working with the public (even if it's just fast food or whatever the case may be). That's a small step to becoming more comfortable within the public eye. And remember, teaching is something wonderful. Just think how much of a difference you could make in someone's life by teaching them something. If you can think of at least one thing you like (music, movies, art, sports), you can direct that towards teaching.

I find that the more you worry, you'll focus on that rather then what you want out of life and you'll never truly be happy. A friend once told me something that I took to heart; "learning to be happy through your struggles is a priceless gift."

this is a very small problem whw u have been saying it
u can solve this in a very easy way
u r at the stage where u have to take teh responsibility now
so now dont think about ur interests now its time tht u have to compromise(adjust) with the things u r doing. try to join in sum job where u r going to earn a bit n then slowly starting saving a lot for few months or days so tht u can have the money with u to start a new venture ,
u can put up ur own entreprenure whw can be started over night n u can do this till u get mind shifted to sumeother thing
if it happenes u can shift to sumother things (the ventures tht can be made overnight or so n then u can do this )

try to do this

you can try to appreciate lifes little pleasures and see how lucky you are for being just alive. Take time to smell the flowers, appreciate the kindness other people show you. Eat pizza and never feel guilty about the calories... There is a place I know where flowers can't grow because of pollution, rubbish and trash everywhere! People are so irritated because the living conditions in that place is horribly traumatic that they've forgotten how to be nice to one another. and eating pizza is a luxury only for the privilege few.. people are getting hungry over there.

THEY WILL PROBABLY DO EVERYTHING just to be in your shoes. You're life is not that bad. be happy.

same here.but give me a chance to give you this piece of an advice: life is already serious to be taken seriously. i guess we'd better do the most that we can get out of it. there are really things which are beyond our control and capacity. but what matters is that we haven't given up on it. simply put, we just did not let it stay as it is. there was an effort on our part either to practice, cultivate, or develop it--whatever. we just don't give up that easy. as bon jovi said, "it's my life.it's now or never.i aint gonna live forever." do what you want to do do. so be it. u think i am making sense here?
