My gateway laptop froze during a restoration. I didnt know what to do, so I left it alone for a couple of hours hoping it would snap out of it. It never did so I had no choice but to turn it off. Now every time I start my computer a window that says "driver apllication" appears, as if it were going to continue the restoration process, but then freezes.

This seems to be typical from Gateways software they furnish with all the extra junk included.
I have found the only way around this problem is to have a CLEAN FRESH COPY of Microsoft's.
Not Gateway's
This seems to be the only thing I have ever found that works.
Get the Proffesional version and not the Home version as well.

i hope you have to go to another restore point in case you are using windows xp

but i if it didn't work you gotta reformat i guess
but before you do i recommend that you backup your data
on an external device actually you can download dsl
(damn small Linux) its live OS CD that you don't have to install into your system it will allow you access every thing on that computer even the usb/firewire/every thing
i even recommend that you keep using it and forget about windows
you can try some other linux op systems they are free to use, share, modefy, u can even make your own edition of linux
because Linux rocks
