In 1939 Poland never surrendered to the Germans although they were given a chance. They fought bravely against the German war machine with horse cavalry and 18 Th century weapons but, never surrendered, their cities were decimated for this. They were punished for fighting back by having their cities and town razed.

Again when the Hungarians gave in to Communism and Russia after the uprising, Poland stood it's ground and refused to give in. Although they were forced to have a "puppet" government they never gave in to Russia.
