Because the screen they project the movie onto in a theater is, or used to be silver (color, not the metal).

BECAUSE IN THE DAYS OF BLACK AND WHITE MOVIES , THE FILM HAD A COATING OF SILVER. COLOUR FILM DOES NOT HAVE IT IN THE SAME AMOUNT. AND THE SCREEN USED TO BE SILVERY WHITE.
