That's a good question.
I think our cognitive abilities have allowed us to sit above animals in terms of technology and that our emotions have had little to do with it. I guess the emotions of greed and curiosity have helped.
At the same time I think our emotions of hate greed and envy have set us at the same level or lower than animals.

Below... humans just don't have the natural intelligence that animals do. Although I believe animals do have the capacity for these same emotions, animals are more in tuned with the natural world and more adaptive because of this. The natural intelligence in humans has declined over the passing years... so sad.

Both above and below them.
They set us above them because we have the capacity to experience those emotions, however....
morally, this places us below them, as what ever they do is based on survival, where as what 'we' (not all of us) do is out of malice.
In a sense, it demotes us to being a filthy cur, which is worse than your ordinary canine.

I'd have to say that any emotion is destructive and proactive, one to the other always creates something new, sorta like cause and effect.Animals do have those emotions but they are more tuned into their own set of values, like survival & status...oooh wow sounds like us, so you see all living creatures are the same, we just act out differently that all.

It all depends on how you react to them. I'm not at all certain that animals don't feel those emotions in a manner very similar to us.

Above them, but in a negative way. Other animals have these traits, but they just have a far more primitive version of it.

depend upon how you use them - animals often live in the moment carrying no baggage or strong memories
