the administration seems so reluctant to share why Iraq is so important to the our National interests? When I heard President Bush Speak - I kept thinking 51st state - I don't know why. I've thought since the beginning that this was not about oil but about strategic location and claiming that location for the USA - Iraq has relatively little oil compared to like Venezuela. . you know?
is it better to have this slice of land US controlled or extremist controlled?
what do you think?
I do think our leaders should be honest with the people, but then you can't go and tell everyone in the world what you are going to do to your enemy can you? but sometimes I wonder if the enemies are real or imagined..

Understanding that you are joking, the idea of US expansion is an interesting one. I personally like the idea of incorporating Mexico. (Though obviously I am not sure how the Mexicans would feel about it - probably 60/40 against.)
It has a lot of advantageous, which really stand out when you compare incorporating Mexico with incorporating Iraq.
1. territorial contiguity
2. A population who, even if they don't exactly love the US, don't want to blow it up, either.
3. A population that shares some aspects of our culture (ie, not muslim,)
4. A proven ability to live under a democracy.
5. A lack of the "tribal" divisions that afflict Iraq.
Not only would this provide greater employment in Mexico, it would significantly reduce the amount of land-border the US had on its southern side, making it easier to control immigration.
And doesn't the gulf of Mexico have oil? I am surprised the U.S. head Nacho in chief hasn't invaded already!

Extremely bad idea. We got enough problems at home and alone, got a terrible global rating. We are not in Iraq to control or conquer, we are in there to protect until the Iraqi army can stand on its own feet.
Plus, if Iraq became a state, there'd be new culture, economy, language, and religion to adapt to. American culture is entirely different from the Middle East.
And, the United States would be fighting the War on Terror for the rest of its days and I don't think Americans want that.

Nahhh...its hard to govern a piece of land half the world away.
Plus, everyone of those guys over there hates the U.S anyways. There is no point in governing a piece of land where 100% of the population is trying to kill your troops.
I'd rather take over Mexico and anex it as the 51st state. People overthere are tying to get into the U.S anyways. Why not bring the U.S to them?
