Honey, you are going to be alright. You probably are tired from just delivering, tired from not sleeping right. Your baby is born with immunities that last about six months. I doubt that he will get much more than a rash. Try to relax and sleep when you can. If he gets sick, there will probably be fever. If you think he is warm, make a nice warm, not hot, not cold, bath and soak the baby in the water. That will help break any fever. You will be able to tell if he is crying because he is sick or hungry. A mother knows those things, even if she doesn't know she knows them yet. Good luck and God bless you and your new son.

For the first six weeks, any baby with an elevated temperature automatically gets 48 hours in the hospital and a spinal tap to rule out infection. This happened to my middle child when she was 5 weeks old- probably she picked something up from the older sibling but never was really 'sick', just slight fever. So it was 48 hours of fluids and I believe some prophylactic antibiotics.
Very stressful, but at that age and size they can become so very sick in such a short time period, its excellent precaution.

Don't worry so much. It is not good for you and neither for your baby. Do you know he/she feels everything you feel?
So, be in control; put some soothing music next to your baby; rock him/her with you singing; let the baby feel the calm and happy Mom you are.
Now, if you get sick that's life... and, do everything possible to not breath directly to him/her and of course, do not kiss either... and, the baby will be fine. I promise you.
An important thing though: If you're sick and you're breast feeding him/her, stop doing it until the Pediatrician or your Family Doctor tells you to.
Maybe you just have a sore throat or a cold related to stress... and maybe the flu. Check with your Dr. and then do what you need to do.
Do not sleep with the baby...
While being sick that could be a bad idea...
You'll know if the baby is sick when he/she has temperature, when it doesn't eat when needed, when coughs, etc... Just watch him/her and don't worry so much for the good of the two of you.
(if you're "freaking out" often that's an important sign that you should seriously take care of by telling your physician).-
Enjoy your baby and have the greatest time with him/her.
My greatest wishes to you and your baby.

Babies get sick. Most of the time it's not fatal or even serious, not even in newborns. The thing to do is keep an eye on him. If he seems a little ill check is temp. If his temp is over 100.4 rectally, call his doctor. You probably wouldn't need to rush him to the ER unless there was obvious signs of severe illness...seizures, turning blue, gasping or seeming to have difficulty breathing, difficulty moving or you can't wake him up. But those events are extremely unlikely and only result from serious illness, not common viruses. Good luck

He'd most likely have a fever.

In case you don't know, babies spend the first month to two months congested (most of them it seems anyway) that is a normal adaptation to the environment.

If you can't clear the nose with an aspirator or saline drops, go to the ER.
If he runs a fever, go to the ER.
If he labours to breathe, go to the ER.
If he doesn't wake up to feed for over 5 hours, call the hospital or a nurse.

Good Luck, try not to worry.

If you just have a cold and the baby gets the cold he should be ok. You will just need to keep his nose cleaned out and maybe use a coolmist humidifier to help him breath but babies get colds a lot. If he gets a cold you will know with the coughing and runny nose just like adults and maybe even a low grade fever and a little extra fussy. If he does show signs of being sick you can call his pediatrician and they should see him right away and tell you what to do.

First off, colds/flu's have an incubation period. Once you're exhibiting symptoms you've already been spreading germs around the house for a couple days. Just look for respiritory woes in the baby, if he begins to exhibit stuffy nose or congestion, take him in. Emergency room if it's night time, your regular doctor if it's daytime. The doctors office will take in a newborn without an appointment if he's sick.

What sort of sick!! If he gets a cold, he will have the usual symptoms of a cold, same with a cough! Very few normal illnesses are fatal for babies - meningitis being the obvious exception. Just keep a close eye on him - you WILL know if he is feeling ill.

in case your little guy is breastfeeding, then he *could* be secure. there are various antibodies in breastmilk that defend newborns from affliction. Having colds and such are fairly solid for babies - so i'd hassle if he receives one. that's a soreness, and uncomfortable for all and sundry, in spite of if it helps workout toddler's immune equipment, that's extremely significant, in case you do no longer choose him to be sickly later. you're in all threat no longer a hyprochondriac, you're purely a guy. No offense, yet there is no longer something sicker than a guy. So, bypass forward and help with the toddler - you will get mega factors for helping even however you're suffering. For you, take extensive doses of diet C - i'm speaking 5000 mgs thrice an afternoon. it works. It won't harm you, so supply it a shot and notice in case you experience extra suitable - if no longer, you have lost no longer something. additionally, if it helps you - the toddler would be uncovered on your germs until eventually your spouse and son circulate out of the domicile until eventually you're all extra suitable. this is especially impractical, which you will besides get used to the thought germs have already taken administration of the earth, and as long as they bypass away the government on my own, this is comfortable with something human beings.

all mothers get worried with a newborn, i was sick when i had my baby, she never got my sickness, i had the flu, but if your baby does get sick, you should bring them to the doctor, the doctor may also tell you that your baby is to young for medicine, but they would want to make sure the baby can handle the sickness depending if its a premie or not.
Usually you bring your baby to the doctor if it has been crying for about 2 to 3 hours almost straight, then there is something they can't handle.
