When we visit a country, we have to respect the cultures without trying to change it. I am a Canadian and I really hate the burka. Would it be normal and frequent to leave from a restaurant if one server is wearing the burka?

I will visit Malaysia in 2 months.

I know that a lot of people find the burka repressive but it isn't common here - you may not even see a single Malaysian with one on your trip here. The headscarf is called a 'tudung' in Bahasa Malaysia, a 'hijab' in Arab/Gulf countries. Very few Malaysian Muslim women cover their faces, so they just wear a robe called a 'jubah' which may not be fully black but brown/grey. Even if they wear a jubah and a tudung their faces are seldom covered, but most Muslim women especially the younger ones just wear the tudung with a modest top with long sleeves couples with a long skirt/trousers/jeans.

I have never seen a waitress wearing a burka, only a tudung. The upper market restaurants have uniforms for waitresses, and definitely none of these uniforms is the burka. Women in burka (if any) will be the Arab tourists.

Of course if you are not comfortable with a restaurant for any reason, just get up and leave before ordering anything - no problem.

And to TheBear saying no local women wear bikinis at beaches - not entirely true:). No Muslim (Malay) women wearing one but Chinese or Indians you may find.

Burka is not compulsary for women in Malaysia and you can wear it only if you wish to. Malaysian Muslim women too do not use the Burka. And restaurant crew definitely dont wear Burka.

As a muslim i think of "right here we bypass back, yet another woman who's jumped on the band wagon". The burka is now a fashion fact in lots of areas of the united kingdom-unhappy yet real. wearing a hijab/burka in my view is as much as a individual and what they suspect. Muslims conceal up in 'loose' outfits alongside with a burka-wearing an honest one that shows ya bum kinda misses the factor yet via new age burka trend maximum females are wearing it to be in with the gang. My mum use to placed on one while i replaced right into a baby. I placed on one while i bypass to bypass to my kinfolk in another country to coach comprehend to the subculture-yet i do no longer placed on one interior the united kingdom. If all of us freaks out by way of seeing you in a hooded cloak they're narrow minded. working example the Kaftan suitable is loosely in accordance with kaftans worn back is 1281 (greater or less, this is the place we can date it back to) by way of the Ottoman Dynasty. They have been Turks, Arabs call them what you will. you spot people wearing kaftans at present-yet noone is going around calling them turks etc do they. narrow minded people generally decide on a awaken call, i would not hassle if some people freak out. i'm beneficial they are going to recover from it.

Most of the hotel & restaurant discourage their staff to wear that. Unless you go to the hocker stall.

Malaysian women are into wearing G-Strings, Hot pants, Sports bra and tank tops... (haven't seen any wearing bikinis at their beaches though... weird)...

Hardly seen any wearing burqas (in fact, most Muslim women whom I know of aren't really into wearing burqas)... if they do wear them, so what? Its not like you're gonna marry them...
