Because breastfeeding is about more than just the type of milk they're getting. Mama smells right, she's soft, warm, it's entirely relaxing for the baby.
Are you pumping your milk for him? Start there, babies prefer breastmilk because it is sweeter than formula.
Second, you can't feed him the bottle. He knows you and knows you're the real deal. Have your partner, or a family member give him the bottle while you leave. He should be offered the bottle when he's NOT hungry so that he can learn to play with it.
Push comes to shove, he doesn't have to drink from a bottle: he can be dropper or cup fed. See the link for details.
My second was reluctant to take expressed milk by bottle. It took a couple weeks before he'd take any milk. He would rather wait until I got home. Even now, he prefers mama to a bottle.
Be patient with him, he'll learn.

Okay, you've gotta try getting this bottle it's by The First Years called a Breastflow- it's sold at Babies R Us. I'm a nanny and when my 10 month old mommy went back to work he would take a bottle some times during the day but at night when she went out he wouldn't take it at all since he was use to being nursed to sleep. I did some research and found this and he's been using it now for 2.5 months and we've had no problems! He still latches on correctly to his mommy and when shes at work or out at night he takes the bottle just fine!
Good Luck!!

My daughter was similar- she NEVER drank from a bottle! She VERY MUCH preferred the breast. In fact, she didn't ever eat baby food, either. Then at about 9 months old she also started eating things like bananas and scrambled eggs.
You're going to have to get him on a feeding schedule and stick with it, and then you will lactate according to the schedule. You can start breast pumping right before you feed and then let him try to breastfeed afterward. Since you'll almost be dry, he might accept the pumped breast milk in a bottle.
Good luck!

If you haven't tried a variety of nipples yet I would go with that first to see if maybe he just doesn't like what is being offered to him. Try different bottles, and different ways of holding him when you feed him with the bottle as versus the breast.

According to American Baby, you're gonna run into resitance at this age. It says to try to have someone else offer him the bottle in a differnet location, or try with himin a differnt position. And try to relax because he can feel your tension.
You can also try switching the type of nipple you are using, babies are picky about that. Try alot of different brands until you find one he will use. Try ones that are a natural shape.

My friend's daughter was like this until she was 4.5 months old.
Possible reasons
A) Wrong nipple
B) If it is formula in bottle, doesn't like taste
C) If you let down is slow, bottle lets milk come out to fast for him
D) He doesn't know what to do with it
E) To hot or to cold
F) To young
They only thing I can suggest is to find a way to support yourself and take more time to tend to your baby.
