There isn't much to do in Foxboro, it's not like Boston where there's alot to do. there isn't much public transportation through there so it's best to have a car. You could drive up to Boston, which is only like 30 min, but could be more depending on traffic. Also, you could go to Providence which is quicker. In the Foxboro area, you could go to a Patriots game, or go over to Mansfield to see a show at Tweeter. Coming soon though, there will be a mall built beside Gillette stadium, I don't know when it opens, but I know it's in the process.

Most NFL teams fly into Green Airport south of Providence. Distancewise Green is closer, plus with traffic added to the equation it's also short travel, but I don't know if there are any public transportation options to go from Green to Gillette. But compared to other major league sports stadiums, Gillette really is 'out in the boonies', more reminiscent of a college stadium (I don't know how many NFL stadiums have Tailgating, but they do in Foxboro). It's not only a good distance away from the major population centers of the area, but it's not even that close to a major highway.
