First, people saying no to animal research have never had polio or dyptheria or any horrible disease that was cured because of animal research.
Second, none would give up 30 years of their lives to save a few pigs. You tell a 30 year old mother that she has to say goodbye to her 2 year old son, all because we wanted to keep a couple rats alive.
Third, there is NO acceptable alternative. Kids who say computer simulations are an alternative are full of sh*t. Their too stupid to know what they're talking about. Computer simulations are fantastic for predicting enginer performance in your car. You cannot predict how living bodies will react to drugs with a computer.
Lots of morons talking about the subject. I wouldn't use any of their advice.

When animals are used in research, they are not tortured as many seem to think. There are rules and ethical issues that guide how research can be done, how one can use the animal, what is ok and what is not. These committees which are set up to keep research on animal in line is very strict. People would have never know what inside of a human being was like if people didnt eventually agree that it is ok to dissect cadavers, it was illegal for a long time and it lead to people doing it the under handed way. Yes, I dont like the idea of animals being used in reasearch. I feel bad that they are made to go through pain. But when I think that something learned through such a research process may one day saved one of my loved ones. I would rather think of that.

The most fashionable view today, what with SPCA and Maneka Gandhi in India, is that animals should not be used as 'guinea pigs'.
But it is the order of this universe that one species uses another, primarily for survival. If some species were not eaten up by others, some of the former would multiply to such an extent that their own, not mention others', would be at stake. You can think of examples. For instance, if all the eggs released by frogs were to survive all our rivers would be just one solid mass of frogs!
Whether animals have 'feelings' is not the important question.
Of course they feel pain and pleasure and they fight to survive and propagate. The point is that man is the Lord of all creatures in this universe; he alone has the power of ratiocination. The cures he finds, lets grant through experiments on animals, are used to cure not only human beings, but also animals, birds and fish.
I would go so far as to say that experimenting on human beings themselves is not wrong PROVIDED it is unavoidable and with consent of experimentees.
What is so unacceptable about a couple of hundred animals being subjected to experiment if as a result millions of human beings can be cured of 'incurable' deceases?

Hi! I wrote a comp. on that subject, here are some of the points I used:
First of all, using animals in experiments is NOT unavoidable.Scientists have developed other ways of checking the
safety of new products, such as computer simulations, which show the body's reactions to them.So using animals in exp, because they are cheaper is unacceptable.
Secondly, progress is more important than animal rights ONLY
in some particular occasions. For example, during medical
research some animals may be killed, but hundreds of people
will be saved by the results.
On the other hand, we must not forget that animals have feelings:
making a defenseless rabbit suffer in order to test a new mascara is
inhuman and unacceptable.
Hope I helped :-)

I think if it is for medical research it is perfectly acceptable, but if it is for cosmetic reasons it is wrong. But that is for both ways, just for the against, you could mention what they do when they are finished with the animals, if they kill them, even humainly that is still murder of an inoccent animal and I would think animal abuse, or if they let them go , are they affected by the testing in a negative way such as if the drug caused blindness of the animal or a decreased sense of smell, the animal wouldn;t be able to function in the wild, and it would, I think, also be animal cruelty. I don;t have a reason to support the completely for, sorry. Hope this helps though.

woah i wanna hear how it goes! :D
thats a really good topic.
I dont know it kinda should be acceptable
Because then how else are we going to find out if they work or anything.
and i dont think it should because i dont believe that it would give a human the same results but now a days they have humans testing out medicines and they pay them and if they die its their fault cause they signed a contract.
Maybe it will become world wide till we get super futuristic and somehow figure things out for the better
i dont have a proper argument at the moment but if i had more time than my free time i would give proper argument.
hope i helped you with ideas and my opinion though!

Since evolution of earth the powerful ones are eating the weaker ones whether it is for animals or birds or insects . Here, at least the ultimate objective is to serve the mankind by developing treatments for various ailments. Even otherwise also many small animals die either being eaten by bigger animals or killed by human beings for paltry reasons.

I believe experiments on animals should be acceptable, especially for medicines, because they help us get closer to finding a cure for today's incurable diseases such as AIDS and some forms of cancer.

Man has dominion over the animals on this earth and right or wrong we can experiment on them to benifit the human race. Would you prefer it to be the other way around.

NO; it is never okay, in my opinion, to test products on animals. Find human volunteers or you could offer a few bucks to them.
